Rpms Take a while to drop after a cold start

In the morning, when I start the car - Tach showing ~1250-1500Rpms.
after 2-3min when Temp Gauge is almost in the middle, the RPMs are still @1K, Only after I start driving, the rps drop to about 700-750. Is it normal??? Or something is wrong?
I have an 04 6speed

Thanks

When it starts warming up, before driving (putting into gear) give it a little pump on the gas, this should drop the RPMs back into the nominal range. Putting your car into drive with such high RPM's may eventually mess with your tranny and that won't be good...

1250-1500 seems high too.. I want to say mine sits RIGHT above 1k when it's cold, but I've never looked that closely.. I'll take a look when I get in it today.

I've also got an 04 6 speed with 43k miles.. how many miles are on yours?

88K
I was thinking may be Idle Control Valve or something???

IT drops to about 1000-1100 after 1-2minutes, but it's still to high.

thats normal, think of your car/engine like a mawn lower when you start it up it's cold so it leaves the choke on allowing more gas in, after it starts to get warmer the choke turns off and the reason the rpm is still high even after the car sits for several minutes is because the car does not warm up as fast in park/idle drive at normal speeds and it will warm up faster then sitting

I know that's supposed to be, BUT the Temp gauge is in the middle and RPMs don't drop below 1K until I start drviing.

Weird, I also get worried about my 07..Once when I started it up it was a 2k, isn't that a bit high? Although I always wait till the tach goes under 1k before I shift into drive..Best bet is just giving it some gas..Or take it into the stealership if its really worrying you..

Max is fuel injection, no choke. Fuel mixture is adjusted by ECU. One reason for high RPM is to warm up car quickly to minimize pollution and meet federal EPA regulations.

I would ask dealer to check the cold idle at the next visit.

I know It's FI and I've ha FI cars before, As soon as temperature goes into normal range RPMs go into normal. It doesn't go to normal until I start driving.
