I'd redo your math for a 6th Gen, however approaching 4 years with mine and minimum problems, love this car...

Hence the "almost"

Well, might as well join in. My '04 SL was assembled in May of '04, purchased in June of '04, and, once a few initial details were fixed quickly by my dealer, it will soon have been three years since the last warranty adjustment, and I have had absolutely no more problems during that span. I love my car!

Same here but 37K now. I got small things here and there like the heat shield noise and so on but nothing compared to my other car.

exactly. why have a fast car if you don't use it... I deffinitly caused it for the most part. Mostly because the dealer told me it was impossible. did it in less than 12000 miles after that conversation.

Well, lets see:

Steering column was little over $1200

BOSE head unit for over $600

A/C Compressor was somewhere in the area of $900

I think these were the biggest.

Besides that;

blower assembly / piece that directs the air - whole assembly replaced
passenger side axle - replaced
belts - replaced
motor mounts - replaced
Low-pressure A/C Hose - replaced
lumbar support - replaced
seat wiring harness (recall) - replaced
rear sub frame (recall) - replaced
warped rotors - replaced
EGR Valve - replaced
Battery - replaced (twice)
Air Intake Spout - replaced
Grill - should have been replaced but I got the AT
Chrome roof strips - should have been replaced but I just polished them

Going to the stealer soon with driver seat moving.

Would I buy another MAX, depends. Lately I am leaning towards BMW and AUDI products so we'll see.

Sorry, I should have been little more clear. What did you do that destroyed the tranny. I use manu-matic more then I use auto so am wondering if there is something I should avoid doing.

sorry did a couple things like the drop that is talked about. hold in the up possition or down I think it was up and see if you can go past redline.. and I went to the track alot. I did alot of driving in those gears. I try to take care of it for the most part now. but burnouts to 4th gear didn't help. I use the manual part of the manumatic allmost all the time. I like to drop down gears alot too. The guy at the dealer told me he was impressed and to take it easy from now on. Also to change to fluid out every 30000 concidering my driving habbits and to look into a tranny cooler. hope that helped.

Well I got my car in November of 03 and I'm just about to hit 60,000 miles.
I've had my share of problems but all covered under warranty:
Grill replaced (peeling)
Skyview replaced (recall)
2 door locks replaced
A/C pump replaced
Roof repainted (rust)
Chrome roof strips replaced (faded)
Front CV boot blowout (due to coilovers, non warranty)

Still lovin' the Max!!!!!

Well I like the Audi S4 and the BMW 335 (2 door) and they are not slow by any means. As far as loving my max, yes I love the car and that is why I still have it and am enjoying it.

The things I listed that were replaced were of course all done under warranty. Thank god I purchased the 75000 Miles Gold Package Extended Warranty. But even then, with all the trips to the stealership its very annoying and invoneniencing especially when you rely on the car as much as I do and they don't always see the problem on the first visit.

2005 Max (manufactured 12/04). 33,500 miles. Driven hard most of the time. Master clutch and slave cylinder replaced under warranty. That’s it. This car is my happy place.

'04SE/AT made in 04/04 bought in 06/06. Issues:
* Peeling chrome strips and cut CVBoot - Out the door.
* Loose heatshield + broken bracket.
* pull a code before 36K and the CAT replaced after 36K mark.
All above were in warranty. It only cost me $270 to put on the KYB front struts (car out of 36K) and I didn't want the OEM anyway. My car is solid eversince, it's 53K now.
I hope the warranty already fixed all that was needed. Not bad at all.
