Project Rim Repair

well here's the thing. i know have a set of 18" Infiniti Rims 7 spoke. just to make it clear they are the 06 coupe rims. My friend gave em to me because he has a 4th gen and doesn't want to put 18" rims on them. now the problem is that the rims are pretty badly damaged. and he's willing to trade em to me for my stock 17".

well to make a long story short i aggreed b/c these are my dream rims. i've always wanted them. and he's giving me basically as much time as i want as long as i keep em with me. well now seeing that i'm getting new tires anyway it should make my job a lil easier. going to wash and get all the supplies 2morrow.

looking to get:
clear rim primer
silver/alloy rim paint
heavy duty acetone (i have, hope its not too strong)
bondo/spot putty
sand paper 220 and 320(currently avialb.)
and time (don't have)

i plan on going the safe route that i would know and assume would work. well i do some what wood work and repair at work so i would think its pretty close to that. this is the route i an planning.

1. clean
2. light finish remover
3. clean
4. sand (220)
5. clean now throughly
6. extra sand (330) on damaged area
7. clean
8. dry
9. apply spot putty or bondo type filler
10. let dry
11. sand (220)
12. clean
13. apply filler again
14. sand (330) until smooth and flush w/wheel
15. color spray paint
16. wipe away and plots of paint
17. let dry
18. sand (330) lightly
19. clean
20. spray color paint on wheel lightly
21. let dry.
22. repeat steps 20+21 if needed (recommended at least once more)
23. clear coat
24. let dry
25. sand (220)
26. clean
27. repeat steps 23+24
28. sand (320)
29. clean
30. spray clear coat evenly thru the whole wheel

any suggestions on how i should go? or is this good?

Pics of damage would help. Why would you "bondo" a wheel?

For all the time and supplies you're willing to put into them, spend a couple hundred and have them powdercoated.

Bondo will turn into a projectile off your rim when you go fast.

Your call.

Well i really have no input, but a definite question. One of my rims are slighty cracked on the interior and is pinching the tire. if i got new tires and didn't fix rim would it damage the new tire or should i get the rim replaced?
