I was speechless when the guy gave the #. I had to confirm the car make/model again and again. After labor and profit, I guess the glass may cost around $70-80 wholesale (they had the glass hand-deliverred) The other quote was $210. It's good to live in Orange county (too many competitions), house prices is another story. OK: the right chrome piece# is 73852-7Y000 (forgot to ask the left#). The retail$ is 75.37, I got 20% off that. All the Nissan parts depts are so nice, I often got 10-20% just by chit-chating and then ask for a discount. Time to replace the piece = 5 minutes. What ever you do, don't push on the piece onto the glass. There is an air gap between the glass's edges and body frame (the sealant isnot normally applied at the edges but some distance in). Also, don't bother with going to the dealers, they hire the same 3rd party to do glass work, then jack you for $$$.
There is a protective film to remove after installation. No way you can forget to remove it. The new piece is very shiny, little more than my back piece now. I will wait for the dullness to set in, or I may have to replace the left piece to match.

I grew up in Lancaster, PA, so I remember the Amish well. No chrome on anything.

Easy for you to say, with black overlays same as your car's color. Unless I can paint them Smoke, chrome really makes my car much nicer.

Deus,
Would applying the strips be easier if you removed them from the car first? Seems like it might be easier to wrap the film around the sides... However, you are the only one who has actually done it. I am ordering them from Bat, and am curious if I should remove them or just do it the way you did....

If you decide to remove/re-use the strips, I would recommend pulling/pushing them. If you lift them up too fast, you may have to re-position the plastic pieces inside. However you need to lift the backend of the strip, it has a lock-in tab, preventing it from moving back and forth. So just lift it off the stopper. then pull it toward the back of the car (fingers or a wire coat-hanger should work).

IT would be much easier but your risk cracking the windshield. Something thats stopping me from wrapping them metallic silver (to match the car)

I say leave the strips in. Its not that hard to wrap them. Just tuck the sides in ,and let the blow dryer heat them up and they will form fit and stick.

No cost, just got them replaced today. Evidently they had to order the right one about six times because it kept getting damaged in shipment.

Not sure which is which, but part #'s are 73852-7Y000 and 73853-7Y000.

Does anyone know how much those strips cost? Is it worth doing this at the dealership?

Mine are in terrible shape and I want to get them replaced. I think its a little too late to make a warranty claim on an 04 with 70+K

btw - lol @ stealership :P

I have been waiting for someone to come with some info on how to take those things off.. I hate Nissan for giving us those faded @$s plastic strips.... It would be nice if the whole strip was chrome.. silver.. painted.. something besides faded see through plastic.... Good lookin out though!

Folks!

Update to this information...well may not be an Real update though.

I contacted Nissan about having to replace these chrome strips every year. They gave me no assistance, and didn't really care - hmmm...what a suprise, right? Either case. The dealership replaced them again, 2nd time, fought it, and they did it under "good will" here in San Antonio. They are a 1 year warranty, so believe it or not, I have posted in my MS Outlook Calendar to replace them again next June cause they are going to fade again.

I have found no method to protect this chrome from fading into a crappy bronze like looking color. Unless you park under a tree all the time and garage your car, the chrome will take a beating. You don't see this on the new Max...so maybe Nissan learned a lesson or two...

Either case...my 2 cents...ok 10 cents!

Following thread. Will be replacing my top ones soon. I can't do the rear window due to the fact my roof spoiler is on. I think his screen name is bluebat or something like that. He does the over lays. Anywayz, can someone hook me up with his info. I would like to get the dark slate (K50) overlay for my roof strips and leave the chrome on the rear ones (for now).
