time to switch forums

whatsup fellas...

just wanted to make my presence known here in the 6th gen forum. im a die-hard maxima head, have been since i got my 95 in 02. im trading in my 95 gle on friday for an 04 se 5at with every option. gonna be a bittersweet day...imo my 95 gle, after 13 years and 154k miles, still runs better and is more reliable than 90% of new cars on the market, and 100% of american brands . only mods were a wsp y, and an intake...nothing like pulling up to 325i's in my 'hoopty'...and crushing them. most heads with a 4th gen know wha tim talking about.

anyway, jsut wanted to reinforce the fact that this is an absolutely sick source for information on our cars, and that i doubt you can find a more loyal following anywhere. thanks again.

ps anything i should immediately look at on my car when i pick it up friday? those goodyear tires?

Drive it between 50-65mph and check for a shimmy, my car didn't have it but the 04's were notorious for it. Other than that, check the TSB's and enjoy the ride. Welcome to the 6th gen forum...

Check for cracks on the sidewalls of the goodyears. if you're test driving it look out for heat shield rattle, blown strut, and shimmy at hwy speeds.

yeah i would have to say check every angle of that car for scratches and dents and such stuff.for some reason when you go to look at max's espcially 2004 or 05 they usually have minor small things but since your at the dealer might as well have them fix everything they can.and yeah go over 50,some people say there is a shake.usually when you get rims on it but check on it anyways..

and wow you have been a dedicated fan since way back thats awesome.they are reliable cars i must say and yeah this forum is addictive but very very useful.welcome to the addiction buddie

You don't say how many miles are on the 04 you are buying. That is info that can help us reply. I won't repeat the shimmy problem check info.

You should plan to replace the Goodyear tires ASAP (if they are still on the car). Also, you should watch out for failure in the front struts -- leaking or not working properly (do a strut check).

My 04 has 64 K miles and the only problem I've had (of those mentioned) is cracks in the RSA tires. I now run Michelin Pilot Sports (expensive, but great tires). I thought the 04 was a poor performer in snow. But when I replaced the RSA tires, I found that the tires were poor performers in snow. With the Pilot Sports, I'm no longer afraid of driving my Max in the snow.

Good Luck

Welcome bro and grats on the 6th gen. I was a pathetic loser wandering in my life with a stock Maxima before I found heaven here with Chern, Deus, Fastmax, Coolmax, NmexMax JG, Killah and all the other Diehard Mizzy crew. Enjoy!

34k miles. im going to adjust my statement from earlier about the sound system. i listen to wu tang around 80% of the time...and that actually sounds a bit better on this system. the bass is a little cleaner, and its just a little louder overall.

but alternative music sounds pretty crappy. there is little to no kick from the bass at high volume, which in my opnion is weird. the rap that i listen to, which has heavy beats sounds great...but rock doesnt? doesnt make much sense to me.

At about 30 K miles my RSAs were not worth much. They still had some tread on them, but the cracks in the lower sidewalls made them unsafe. I did not want another Goodyear tire, so I walked away from them and went with Michelins. RSAs are crappy tires -- and terrible in snow.
