Long cranking time tonight ??
Went to our grandsons football game tonight and got back to the parking lot and tried to start our 2005 maxima and it cranked & cranked no start.I pulled the key and tried it again it started right up.We always use 93 oct gas,car has 31,000 miles on the OD.Any thoughts, this is the first time this has happened. Thanks, coobie
I bought my 04 in May of 03. I replaced the original battery last June -- at just over 4 years. It was still working OK, but the battery tested out weak. Most of my previous battery failures have been due to heat (rather than cold). So, to be certain that the battery did not fail while on summer vacation in SC, I replaced the battery before leaving on vacation.
But this battery lasted 4 years and about 60 K miles -- it was not "exactly 3 years" and then instant battery death.

i had the same thing happen about a week ago. i cranked, but nothing. then cranked again and finally she started up. stock battery, 38k miles on my 06. it's either a ****ty battery or my system is putting an excessive strain on it.
2004SE, 3.5yrs @52Kmiles. This happened about three times over the yrs. The first two times, it cranked but didn't start on 1st try. I thought I let the key go a little early. Recently I just changed the battery anyway with a high-power 96month unit. Then the other day, it cranked and didnot start until the 3rd try. It was a 101 hot day in CA. Since my battery is new, I wouldnot bother.
This has happened to me a few times, but only in a cold start situation where the afternoon/night before was in the 40's and the early morning was in the 20's or lower.
If it was cold (low 30's) when I shut it down in the afternoon/night and then 20's or lower the next day, no problem.
It always seemed to me that there was some sort of "temperature differential situation" that the engine electronic sensors didn't adjust for on the inital start when it got really cold for the first time. Of course, what do I know?

Anyways, I wouldn't worry I have had this happen once in a blue moon and I have 70K on my baby.
