Finally painted my headlights **pics**

Well I finally had the time and B(a)lls to get these suckers open. At first I was scared that I might break something or mess up the lights. I took the time to read and plan. The process was quite simple It took me 6 hours to do both headlights. Its been almost a month already and so far everything is good. I decided to wait on posting this because I wanted to see the end results after a month. Many of you talked about your lens fogging up and I wanted to make sure this didn't happen. So I wanted to share with you a simple and inexpensive way of doing it. All you need is:
  • Krylon Fushion paint
  • Hair drier
  • tools
  • patience
So I removed the headlights, baked them, and followed the steps in the stickies. I wet sanded the chrome with 1000 grit and let them air dry. I applide three coats of black fushion paint and dried it with the hair drier for 10 minutes each. Placed the headlights back on and baked them again. Its been over three weeks already and no signs of lens fogging up.

Here are the before and after pics.

one of the nicer mods. I've got a silver max so OEM works fine but these black headlghts look better and better.

I like it! Probably not so good for silver or white but on the darker colors looks real good.

I was afraid at first, but it was easy. My biggest fear was melting the headlights in the oven. Lol

There is a white Max in here with black headlights. Check the stickies on the how to section of painting headlights. I believe the guy who posted the second write up has the white Max. IMO it looks good.

With all honesty after seeing yours I regret painting the whole thing black. I would of like it more if I kept the rings that house the bulbs chrome like yours, but its too late.

I hear ya Bro. When I had a Dodge Ram Hemi I did the same thing to the headlights and also cleared out the amber lens as well. I stuck it in the oven at 125 degress for 25 minutes which is kinda scary. It came out great!
I'll post a picture of it when I get home.

Ya got me thinking about losing the amber lens on my Maxima.

Great! It will be a meeting of the heads, errr minds.

Speaking of fog & lights, what do you all think of a BMW looking mesh to cover the lower black rubber piece on the lower bumper?

If you can make it professional looking I think it would look cool.

Oh and just a piece of advise. You don't have to worry about removing the white pouch inside the lens housing. I tried to remove one and the thing ripped. That stuff can be messy. I had to re-tape mine. I baked the second light with the pouch in there with no problems.

Very nice job. No drips, no runs, no errors.

What's next on your to-do list?

U have to re open them and clean off the material left by the paint fumes. It is illegal to paint the amber only if the amber cannot be seen. My amber is tinted but it still looks amber, so thats legal.

Thanks. Grill came with the car when I bought it from the stealer. I'm sure they sell them because they tried to convince me to get the bottom piece, but I didn't like the way it looked.
