not saying there isn't some circumstances where that might work but normally thats not the problem with a battery, the acid doesn't evaporate only the water does. So adding more acid to it shouldn't actually change anything. Did make me think that maybe the battery had gotten low on water and I happen to have my old battery still waiting to be returned for the core so I looked and it is still full so that wasn't my sudden battery death problem. Not to say it isn't someones though.

BTW. The battery problem is one major reason for repairs in otherwise reliable vehicles causing the reliability statistics to be completely wrong. This happens especially with high end models that are loaded (read overloaded) with options (high end BMWs, Audis, MB etc)
never had heard of acid stratification before, thats interesting. Seems like a much better fix would be tipping the battery (although the wine requires no tools) Now I'll have to go try tipping my battery over.
Good heads up, thanks

I just checked my battery and it was low so I added some water, I don't know about the red wine, the fruit content of the grapes may over time gel up in the battery so I would only try it as a last resort
The old school batteries you could add acid to so the theory is there

I had read all the post and was warned... It actually happened to me a couple days ago. Luckily I had to run home to get something real quick and when I came back out and hopped in my car, nothing.. I had never had a problem with any of the Optima batteried I had in the past but there wasn't anywhere around me that sold the Optima in a 35 and the boys at autozone tried their best to get another model to fit but to no avail. Ended up ordering it and it fit perfectly. There would be no reason for the dealer to have to install it, all you need it a 10mm wrench.... It will cost you between 150 and 200 most places, and since it is a sealed battery there shouldn't be a problem with shipping (not sure how things work with our northerly neighbors)
By the way - Would anyone happen to know how many amps the OE alternator puts out? I think my sub/amp was part of the problem with my battery and don't want to install a cap for them yet so I was thinking of upgrading to a high output alt... any ideas of who might make one to fit?

I just used 3 layers of cork board cut to size and it hold great also minimizing vibrations, not that it matters anymore with my optima.
