Deus - You should name your car 'Black Death'. If I saw that Maxima pull up alongside, I would give a 'thumbs up' and meekly allow it to pull away. It looks like it really means business.

I have an 04 Maxima SE and I love this damn car (5th Maxima). Driving around Atlanta, I can get 22 miles per gallon. When driving on long trips it depends on when I am driving. I have found that driving during the day, I can get about 28.0 mpg, but when driving at night when the temp is cooler, I can get 30.6 miles per gallon.

I drive consistently at 80mph and don't nail the gas or slam the brakes unless it's absolutely necessary. I keep the oil changed every 7500 miles and the tires (Pirelli P6 18") inflated to 44 PSI. I drive with the A/C on, but at a low setting.

The Maxima has a 20 gallon tank and once I was able to drive 340 miles on half a tank. When I filled up I had used 10 gallons. That's 34MPG!!!!!!!! But then again, I was trying to see how far I could go, so I drove at 70MPH and below.

Has anyone else experienced that the Fuel Economy display is always off on the highway? It told me that I was getting 25MPG but when I filled up I calculated 28MPG.

Maybe, just maybe, some people thought that this info is useful to them.
Hmmm... what a coincidence, this is a forum, where others of the same interest share their information and learn from others.

I get 18-19mpg city and maybe 20-21 highway. The pedal has a habit of going down further than I want.

In my 07 max I get 16-19mpg in the city and 25-27mpg in the highways. I can understand the city driving gives me bad mpg coz I drive in NY but it should atleast give me 28 or more on the highways. I had a 04 and 02 max previously and in both of them i could get over 30mpg on the highways if i drove conservatively. I donno why my brand new 07 max is giving me such a bad mpg where nissan boasted in their ad that the cvt gives you better gas milage.

I'm running on 36psi tire-pressure all around as well....... so it can't be the tires.

I miss my 04 max....

It really depends on your driving habits. In the city I try to keep the car in top possible gear and since VQs are good with tourqe I'm able to make a 90 degree turn ~20mph in 4th gear with no problems. My friend's 530i in 4th gear starts to choke, but again, his 4th gear taller and those engines shine at high rpms.

When I was selling my accord coupe 6 speed the guy who test drove it - was driving 1 block in 2nd gear till the stop sign, I was getting ~18-19mpg in that ca r, he'd probably get 14-15 with his habits.

If You're not in the rush try 1-2-4-6 or 1-3-5-6(that's what i do)
On the highway it's a different game and it depends on Your rpms in top gear, our 6th gear is kinda too short.

just my 2c

I am surprised that you get 25-27mpg in the highways in your 07 max. I tried very hard with all windows closed, a/c off, and set on cruise at 65mph for about 20miles and then could reach 25.1mpg. But I could never go beyond that. I always use 93 octane if that helps. I am running on 34-35psi.

The specs say the hwy will be 25mpg. Did you ever get 27mpg? Did you get that from the trip computer or calculated yourself?

I own an 07 Max also, and I drove it home the weekend I bought it...a 600 mi trip w/ a/c, cruise mostly at 70-80 mph...32psi in all tires...computer displayed 26.5mpg after that trip...but I calculated 27.1mpg. The car had 710 mi on it after the trip...not even close to being broke in...in terms of fuel mileage.

Damn, sounds like the CVT is really putting a hurting on you '07's. I get 22mpg consistent around the city in ATL, and 28 to 30 highway in my '06.

Cool. Did you set the cruise at any particular speed? I heard the maximum mpg occurs somewhere between 60 and 70mph.

Just curious, but what RPM are you @ when cruising at highway speeds.

Most namely (MPH):
60, 75, 80, 90 ?

This is what I remember approximately but I might be a bit off. Any 100% stock 07-08 owner might correct me as I hope everyone's will be the same.

50 mph -> 1800 rpm
60 mph -> 2100 rpm
65 mph -> 2300 rpm
70 mph -> 2500 rpm
75 mph -> 2700 rpm
80 mph -> 2900 rpm

3000RPM=81mph, so for every 1000rpm speed increases 27mph, that's in 6th gear. If You want to figure the speed You want - just divide speed by 27 and You'll get RPMX1000

Thats pretty easy and straight up to 81 mph Does it also work for CVTs?

Depends on the FD and gear range. I have spreadsheet showing the relation on new/unloaded tires, but just wanted a general view of your CVT since I have not taken the time to plug those gear values into my spreadsheet.

I could also go to Nissan's website or DL the FSM and plug the tallest #'s (along w/ your FD) into the equation, but like I said, I was after just a rough comparison.

Bone stock with 22000 on the odo and I get roughly 23-25 in town and 28-31 on the interstate. That is me doing the #'s.

Where exactly in Nissan's website can I do that?

From the approx. rpm I provided, it seems the CVT also follows the 27mph per 1000 rpm rule. There might be a little discrepancy in the lower ranges (less than 40 mph).

So do you think one gets the best mpg between 60 to 70mph? In the manual (page # 5-16), it says: "Drive at moderate speeds on the highway. Driving at high speed lowers fuel economy."

i dont buy for one second ppl are getting 20 miles per gallon in city driving. 20mpg maybe, but not a chance in REAL city driving. i am in sales, in the ghetto of north philly, with mad stop signs and lots 0f 15mph speed limits. THAT is city driving. i get 17 if im lucky. usually evens out to about 18.5 if i do some highway driving. again. 85% of the tank is city/residential driving.

If it's through the REAL calculation...miles divided by the amount of gallons filled up, then yes, you should be worried. If it's through the computer, then no

I set it at the respective speed limits of the interstates and US hwys...so in OK...75mph...TX 2 and 4 lane roads daytime...70 mph...night 65mph. It was about 40 % 75...40% 70 20% 65mph.

55mph at 2000rpm

65mph at 2250-2300rpm
70mph at 2400rpm
75mph at 2500 rpm

That looks about right to me. A tad over 2500 on the tach at 75 and that's about the speed I drive on the highway. I am getting 20.5 mixed city and short highway but I still play around a little so hopefully it will get better. On the highway when passing its just too much fun to keep my foot out of it. Will switch to synthetics soon since I sell Amsoil and hopefully the mpg will go up a little from that alone.

I see you have the Dodge Dakota V8. Just curious to know what mileage you get on that and the different rpm's at different mph's.

Lol, that is a gas inhaler, esp the way I drive and what I have it setup for. In stock form they are capable of about 20 hwy and 17 city. I actually got better city mileage with shorter rear gears. I drove a rental truck with 3.55's and it ate more than my first Dakota with 3.92's. My current truck only gets about 12 in the city but with the super tall Viper 6th gear it sips about 22 at best on the highway. 4.56 rear gears I would say it tachs about 2200 at 75 or so. That's with 26" tires, the larger tires its down to about 2000. Dakotas are pretty bad on gas and the V6 is not much better than the V8's but the power difference is well worth the extra cost at the pump.

Hell yeah it does. I can get about 420 city miles out of a tank of premium and only about 300 on regular.
