Dues's z32 tt brake setup

hey, ive been talking to jeff92se for some brackets and hubcentric rings so we can possibly come up with a bbk [much] cheaper than the ones that are out there. i remember reading about deus's setup and i am trying to find that info so i can relay that to jeff to get his input and ideas.

thanks!

*Deus* has the 300ZX calipers/brackets on stock rotors, so what are you exactly asking?...

projmax, i am wanting to be able to use jeff92se's hardware to be able to use the cobra 13" rotors on our max. also, trying to determine which calipers to use. if stock wont work, then use the z32 tt, Q45, or J30 calipers. basically do a bbk much cheaper using oem nissan calipers.

naice!

If he were to make a bracket for the rear Z32 calipers then I would be so down for a full "BBK" with calipers that say NISSAN on them!

There is a parking brake issue with the rears. I would go with the 350Z rear brakes I have; VENTED rotor and slightly larger piston than OEM Maxima brakes.

kam, so basically the same in the front as we have except 2 piston instead of 1, correct?

the rear calipers will bolt up to accept the vented rotors w/o any mods?

Did Matt make you a special set of brackets or did he send you the standard set he used to sell to everyone?

IIRC, our stock rotor size in front is 12.9...someone correct me if I am wrong

Rotor size diameter and thickness (in.)
Vented disc
12.60'' x 1.10''

Rear Type

OEM front rotors are 12.6" on the Maxima. I don't think you want more rear bias with rear 12.6" rotors. Matt Blehm sent me the standard bracket.

Kamski told me that the rotor size doesn't matter as much as the piston size when it comes to brake bias.

Larger rotor has greater brake torque

I don't understand why you needed Matt's brackets if you are using the stock 12.6" 6th gen rotors. Shouldn't the calipers just bolt on?

I think the torque arm dimen are the same as the older maximas but the actual caliper mounts don't allow for the 12.6" rotor. Hence the need for his brackets.

That's my guess.

When you say cobra 13" rotors do you mean ford mustang cobra???

Jeff: The 300zx calipers came with 11.5 ish inch rotors. The brackets extend the mounting point to accommodate the larger Maxima rotor.

I realize this. But Matt's brackets were also designed to use with the 12.6" rotor. A rotor you already have. There are two ways to accomodate a larger rotor:

1) Use a caliper that has the attachment arms long enough.
2) Use a torque arm that has it's attachment points lengthened.

I think you must be impling that the 6th gen calipers have longer attachment points than the 300z calipers. So to run these calipers, you have to compensate with Matt's brackets.

Thanks. Just trying to understand. If that is the case then there's a chance that my brackets will work for the 6th gen also (coupled with the 13" Cobra rotors).

But my machinst just got back with me. Ring price will more than double! If I can't find another machinst, the cost is going to be in the $100/pair range for the rings alone. Bringing the bracket/ring cost to about $160-$170 range.

hmmmmmmm so your brackets/rotors + 300ZX 4POT calipers?

Do you have anything available for the rears of the 6th gen?

Yes. My brackets/rings + 300z 30mm 4 pots "should" work. You will have to enlarge one set of holes as previously advised. I stress "should". I don't think it's been done before.

Rears. Definately not. Whole different/expensive/complicated ballgame.

Even though the 300zx rears look good, the 350z calipers and rotors are a nice cheap upgrade

jeff, so with this new info, what are our options in terms of front brake upgrades with your hardware?
