Back. Resonator appears to quiet it some more, less drone. At this point its the mufflers making most of the noise in the cabin. I'm liking it a lot more than the Cattman resonator.

After almost 2 weeks of driving with this system (CBE & Y), I have to say that I am very pleased. I got exactly what I expected and wanted; the volume decreased a bit once some carbon accumulated and now it's perfect- mean and aggressive, but not overly intrusive.

Try adding sound dampener to the trunk area. That works good too.

You must not be womping on it enough if there's carbon build-up...

Only thing I've done is changed out the resonator and added an extra one. I'm not sure I want to drop the bones for 2 new mufflers.

Probably bout $250 including labor.

I'm not sure I want to invest anymore. I might be down for some muffler silencers if I can find the right size. I can get them cheap and install them myself.

I came across these and thought they might help you out. They're not exactly cheap ($40 ea.) but should reduce the volume to a decibel you're happy with.

They were garbage. Rusted out and not worth holding on to at the time.

I agree. They did a lot of work to get this thing not to drone. I thought it might be the mufflers, but maybe the pipe sizes and crimp do something as well?

I think you can probably bump that to 100%. We changed out the stock mufflers on my wife's 2002 Mustang GT to some Imco mufflers and it sounds fantastic but it drones hard at like 2500rpm. The car was 100% stock otherwise, no intake, nothing. I think it has everything to do with the mufflers and not the crimp or pipes sizes. Hilbe put extra resonators and everything and could't get rid of it that way either. Does anyone think the Cattman would drone with some Remus mufflers on there?

Man I do miss the growl, and yes it is the mufflers. They are the 14862s. I have to say that the video that I took did pretty good justice on the sound unlike other videos. Still have 07 muffler canisters in my garage. I have no intention of placing headers anytime soon.

I don't think we need to arrange an awards ceremony yet, I've heard the NISMO catback and it drones on an automatic. The degree of drone is directly related to the amount of sound overall - a loud catback drones loudly, and a quieter exhaust drones less loudly.

The only way to completely eliminate the drone is to muffle down the exhaust sound completely, and there goes the performance (might as well leave it stock).

I agree. Put some headers on it and see how it 'does not drone'.

Nismo might be ‘Nissan Specific’, but Cattman is Maxima specific, meaning he has spent time w/ the FWD VQ30 & 35 for many years. This is why IMO, his products should be well trusted and never doubted. He’s worked hard for his reputation, and it is very well deserved.

I dont doubt his stuff, iv seent the worlds most PIMP y pipe. But I for a fact know my NISMO exhaust doesnt drone. But that could be to a fact that I'm driving a manualski.

I'm not sure what the difference between the two are but I have the Nismo on my 05 Max with the Cattman Y pipe (http://www.6thgenmaxima.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5137) and I have to disagree with Hilbe, it does drone right in that 2k-2500rpm range. If I'm just cruising along sitting in that rpm range, I can tell just by the sound of the exhaust. It's not a loud or annoying drone but it does drone. My stock exhaust never droned but then again, it was stock and sounded like it. I think Brian hit it on the head "The degree of drone is directly related to the amount of sound overall - a loud catback drones loudly, and a quieter exhaust drones less loudly. " I've never heard the Cattman catback in person but from what I am reading, it's probably a little louder and more agressive sounding than the Nismo. Since sound is subjective, it's really tough to say, one man's annoying is another man's "not loud enough".

I have a auto and I don't hear any draon at 2500K rpm sometimes I hear a little in 4th but proablly cause the rpm is to low. Again nothing to write home about not loud at all.( Passed Wife test) LOL. Also I think they did a great job cause the only place you can really hear the exhuats is outsie the car from the back.. Love my Nismo.

LOL, when I first installed it my friend Ray helped me in pre-assembly while I was putting on new gaskets for the y-pipe. So anywhoo, HE assembled the resonator backwards so that the big flange was at the back and the small one at the front.

All this caused the damn exhaust to make some weird noises and hit the metal bracket that goes under the car. I was ready to throw it in the garbage and buy Cattmans setup from the classifieds. Then I looked at the instructions which I happen to have in the car and noticed something. I realized the damn resonator was on backwards so I re and re the resonator. That made a huge diff in sound and no more hitting the metal bracket.

Best part, I left the car running in the parking lot the other day when with GF in car. She happily tinkered away on her Crackberry and one of my other friends showed up.

Mike- "NICE exhaust, turn it on lets hear it"
KAM- "It is on " (runs in the car and revs motor)
Mike- "No way!"
KAM- "Yeah pretty quiet"
Mike- "Is it straight through?"
KAM- "Yeah man, look who its made by"
Mike- "Holly siht, NISMO, why would you waste like a million dollars on exhaust"
KAM- "$549US, from BERK in Cali"
Mike- "Holly siht that cheaper then what I paid for my Civic" (Mike has a civic with some greddy fart cans on it"
Kam- "Yeah man it idles quiet, but listen to it when it opens up"
Mike- "WOW!"

5th gens were the first Maximas to have OEM variable capacity mufflers.
I have stock muffler.
