Fanbelts... 04 Max

Fanbelts... 04 Max
I'm tryin to find two fanbelts: one for the A/C and one for the Power Steering. Mines have several cracks and the dealer said that they should be fixed as soon as possible. I would much rather buy them for a cheaper price somewhere than to go to the dealer and they charge me 187.00. Are these the two fanbelts that I will need?? I think both come in the same order... I just need to be SURE they fit the 04 Maxes....

Lol I know.... but its STEALERship for God Sakes... lol so are the ones in that link the right ones? I had an invoice from Firestone for my tires and it said some recommended services to my car would be the fanbelts, and the part numbers matched except on the Power Steering Belt... a couple of letters were off... so can you help me?

Should get and underdrive pulley (www.cosmoracing.com) while you're at it.

Belts should be $15 (PS) and $20 (Accessories). Installation is where they'll get you.
As mentioned before, you should consider getting a pulley installed. The pulley install requires the belts be changed anyway. I got mine installed when it was time to change my belts. I got the install for $100, plus $35 for the belts.

It makes the car rev a lot quicker since its a lot lighter than stock. I really enjoy the mod, regardless if it only adds a few whp here and there.

Yeah they said 187.00 to replace and install that junk.. I was heated.... so I take it that the link I provided is not the right one? On the invoice from Firestone though it showed the A/C belt was the same as the one on Ebay.... how much should all that cost including the pulley, to be installed?

I got the outer belt at Advanced for like $13. Piece of cake to install if you have a ratchet with a couple of long extensions. I did not do the P/S belt because it looked good.
Have any other 2004 owners noticed that Autozone has the wrong part numbers on a bunch of parts for our vehicle. The part number for the belt is different at Autozone than at two other stores I checked and it seemed to match the 2003 part number. I think their part list is f.....d up for 2004.

You will need a different Power Steering belt if you get the pulley. Its smaller. I have a thread on here somewhere for it, lists the belt required. It'll take the same size accessories belt though...

Hi,
I just got the warning from the Stealership as well regarding my cracking drive belts. I just spoke with my friend and he said it might be hard to change.
Longhorn101, is it really easy to install? i really don't want to be fishing out $1-200 on labor but likewise dont want to F up my car badly. . Does anyone have the instructions to the replacement? i'm pretty ignorant when it comes to DIY maintenance. Any help with How To or required tools? Thanks!

I only did the outer belt (wider one) and yes it was easy. I'm not sure about the inner belt because I don't know where the tension adjustment is for that inner belt which i think is only the power steering belt. The generic instructions are to jack up and support, remove passenger tire and the splash shield covering oil filter and belts. Loosen the tension adjustment from above in the engine bay which I think required some long socket extentions. Remove old belt, install new belt and re-tighten to correct tension.

Hmmm sounds pretty straight forward. I think i could probably get that done, but im lacking the equipment .. . i only have the regular jack, and a set of ramps. I guess ill try it if it really starts to bother me. Somehow though, i highly doubt i need to be changing my belts at 38K miles. But yah its probably a good idea to still try to check up on it. Thanks for all the help though!
I just had mine changed. 37k miles on my car. Stealership charged me $175.00 for both belts and labor. Its a good 1-2 hours of labor which doesnt come cheap at the stealership.
