K&N FIPK- any input?

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=63-6015

I tried to search around on these K&N aircharger intakes on the forum but couldn't come up with anything. Wondering if anyone has them and what they think about them. I'm in the market for an intake and this one seems like it would do the job. The tubing is not metal, so it won't heat up as much, plus it has a heat shield. Seems like a good product. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

I was thinking about the black FUJITA, but I think I'm just going to do a short, probably a Berk, but I'm definitely debating on the K&N.

Hmmm, that's the first time I see one from K&N, is this new? I'd be interested if the price is around 200ish. I like that its plastic tubing too, for heat and sound reasons. (isnt the Nismo intake also plastic?)

anyone know the price on it?

EDIT: Price is $285.29. SO F it, I'd rather get a Nismo or Fujita CAI. Fujita is now $212 on Ebay with free shipping. MMM very tempting. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FUJIT...spagenameZWDVW

Finally a realistic HP gain from a manufacturer.

I think you can get the Fujita for $189 shipped from Ridetuner in the group buy section.

Caliente Auto has the new Injen CAI w/ the new MR technology for $270 shipped. Great product and good price!!! If I went with anything this would be the route that I would take!

The Berk is great, didn't notice a big difference between that and the cai I had. The FIPK is decent, but a friend of mine had one and preferred a CAI over it.

I know the FUJITA, Injen, Nismo etc. all are very popular CAIs, but I'm interested in the short ram intakes. Since I found this, I'm just trying to get input on the K&N FIPK intake.

That was HP at 5000rpm. Peak HP was 215-220hp roughly. At full peak, stock was only 205hp.

255-220 = 35hp = 13.7%
255-205 = 50hp = 20-25%

I'm guessing that he's trying to say an intake is useless without a TS flash.

I'm more concerned with the fact that they dyno'd in 2nd gear. WTF? Probably just a type-o, the numbers would be much higher if they used anything lower than 4th or whichever is 1:1.

Is that true, because I'm trying to research this and I'm getting mixed answers. Some say that the intake is useless after about a week since the ECU gets used to it, some say you actually loose some power and others say that even after a week, the intake does give you some power, even without doing anything to the ECU.

Every vehicle I've owned has gained a small amount of power and seat of the pants gain from a cold air intake or even a drop in K&N for that matter. The computer will learn the new air flow and calibrate for it but it doesn't decrease the power. More air in, more air out, more horsepower. Its not much, and it seems like the sound is worth it alone.

^^^^ you're right, it just came out 12/7/07 so no one really has it yet. I think I might actually give this a try. As I said, my first choice for a short ram intake was Berk, but I like the way this K&N is made and setup. The only thing I might do later on is change the filter to an Apex'i.

I can't say for the 6th gen maxima, but my dad had a FIPK K&N on his suburban and the design was great and very efficient and I would encourage you to be one of the first to try this on the max.

Write a review on it if you do get it!

My buddy had one on his 2002 Grand Prix and says he loves it. I'll see if I can order it tomorrow and I'll definitely post some pics and my thoughts on it after the installation.

Yeah, the heat shield in the design seems to work exceptionally well. Along with plastic tubing rather than a metal
