Is it bad to spin em?
I am going to get some new tires next week and was curious if I were to spin my current ones to nothing would it damage my car. I heard before that if you are spinning one side or the other you will damage your differential. I don't know if my car has LSD or not and I know that it's definetly not good for the car but all in all is it worth the fun?

Proceed to make a left or right turn (90 degree turn) and FLOOR IT; if you go back and see TWO lines, then you have an LSD, if not then you don't.
I did the same thing when I was about to get new tires, but nothing to such an extreme as literally sitting in place and smoking them for an extended period of time. I just gunned it off the line much more and held it more than I ever would on good tires.
IMO, the only way that you can damage the differential is if you're gunning it while smoking the tires and one of the wheels goes over a pot hole or something...THEN I would assume you could fudge something up.

Unless your car is a 6MT, I don’t think you have an LSD. Check the tranny code on the VIN plate under the hood.
Doing long standing ‘burn outs’ are very bad on an auto tranny. Heat/load
