urethane motor mounts

Today my car started jerking between shifts , i check my motor mounts and the front one is gone. I was thinking if my front are gone after only 42k , wouldn't it be better to replace them with urethane mounts instead of oem rubber mount.

Does any one know where i can get urethane mounts for my max.

Urethane is stiffer than rubber. When a motor is revved, in particular when its under load, it torques, or rotates. The motor mounts job is to cradle the motor but also to resist the torque of the motor. Manufacturers use rubber in the mounts because it transmits less vibration than urethane. However, you lose a certain amount of power and responsiveness because instead of transferring the energy to the wheels, the energy goes to rotating the motor. With urethane mounts, the motor rotates much less, thus making it more responsive. However, there is a bit more vibration. Tradeoffs - thats what mods are about.

That's quite alright. The motor mounts are what hold the motor to the car, in this case we are talking about the poster's motor mount breaking, he wants to install a urethane mount instead of a rubber mount for the reasons deus has listed.

I e-mailed them a while ago asking to make a set for the 6th gen, but there is not one available yet. Only thing that IS available are the end-link bushings.

Definitely NOT needed, unless you are going for a high powered motor...

An important thing to know about the Poly inserts is that they do not last as long as rubber. I'm not advising against them but be prepared to install new inserts within a couple of years.

on the contrary, they will not crack like the rubber ones do later on.

that doesn't make sense concidering they are used with the stock rubber mounts. the only part that even could break is the center. even if that happened the insert would still be doing it's job. the center is used only to keep it aligned for installation. The object is to fill the "gap" so to say. there is way too much play inside the mount. that is why they fail so quick. Stiffen em up and cause less movement but maintain the quality of them being rubber not poly. those who have seen the design of the inserts should know what I am talking about. My buddy has poly mounts and you are right they last a couple years then go to crap. Rubber is the way to go. Inserts are a good alternative till someone comes out with a better designed mount with a filled rubber insert.

how about cattman...? i remember him sellin a solid front or rear motor mount...i might be wrong (please correct me if i'm wrong) what is he using? i remember the racingline mounts only have like one insert peice. wouldn't it just be better if taz just makes an insert with 2 or three inserts instead of one?

im sorry if i don't make any sense. can someone clear things up.

So it is a tradeoff. More power for us and response with no wheelhop vs. A little vibration. That is fair enough to me. I just hope they last as long. Do they make them for Transmissions as well? My tranni mount is bad.

My front one tore a while back..for now i shimed it and its working better than factory. Soon im going to make a solid motor mount for it. I think the urethane is a good idea..but havent had any personal long term experience with them on any of my cars.
