ABS Issues

6th generation 2005 Maxima

Abs would activate when damp however, once car was driven for awhile brakes seemed fine.

Dealership took apart rear wheel hubs and cleaned sensors etc. Suspect they did not follow service bulletin NTB07-016b as service rep suggested there was no service bulletin.

Car was fine for a few weeks then it was damp and foggy and abs started pulsating.

Took back to dealership, and mechanic suggested he was suspect that it was a short in computer/modulator because the abs warning light never came on when the car was acting up. He estimated a new modulator at $1700 plus labour.

I told him not to replace and we will see if it continues to act up.

Yesterday, the abs started to pulsate and the abs warning light came on – but so did the Traction Control System (slip) light came on and the vehicle dynamic control (VDC) light came on. I am not mechanically inclined, but this tells me these features are no longer operating.

I am also suspecting that it may just be a short in the harness or the area that controls these features. I have remaining a 2 year lease on this car, and would get it repaired, but not sure who to trust or what the problem is. Do I spend $2,000 plus on a modulator – that the Nissan mechanic thinks might be the problem (this is the same dealership that said there was no bulletin on the abs) or do I just drive it with the features off.

Any assistance would help.

My thoughts exactly and if your under 36k should still be under standard 3/36 warranty. Also did they just clean the sensors? or did they replace them? and are you certain they took off the hubs and cleaned them as well? If they followed the tsb they are supose to only deal with the pass rear side. They should have removed the hub to clean & notch it, then reinstall with NEW sensor and plastic shield. And if your having to pay for this, this is the same problem you took them b4 and you should not be paying labor again/twice. It really sounds to me like they prob just cleaned the sensors the first time and sent you out the door. I would be on the phone with customer care complaining and consider going to another dealer.
