Heated Steering Wheel
Heated Steering Wheel
Hey guys, i just got my car from being fixed after a wreck but now the heated steering wheel isnt working. im wondering where the fuse is for it? i looked under the hood on the pass side but didnt see one for it.
Did they replace the steering wheel? Just wondering since sometimes they do when the airbag goes off. I believe there are heated and non-heated models. Its possible they got the wrong one?
HELL YA I love my heated wheel too!! FTW but burns my hands sometimes,, LOL. But seriously did you are bag deploy, if it did they may have forgot to plug the wire for the heated wheel back in( there is a connection in side the horn pad).
the seats still work, its just the steering wheel. so i concluded the seats are seperate from the steering wheel. i wonder where the fuse is for it. no, the steering wheel wasn't replaced and the airbags didnt go off.
Even here SOUTH of Atlanta, I find I use the heated steering wheel from around late October to early May, especially early in the morning. I have posted here before that I will never again consider owning a car without a heated steering wheel. I am very serious about that.
My old 2000SE does not have a heated steering wheel, so when we are in it, I make my wife do the driving unless the weather is warm.

Does the light on the switch come on when you turn it on?? I will check my car when I get home tonight to see if I can find the relay.. or fuse
Miss Miami - I should have included the reason I have my wife drive when we are in the 2000SE; I am old and decrepid, with poor circulation in my fingers, while my beloved wife is naturally healthy, vibrant, enjoys driving, and is a less aggressive driver than I. Also, I am a map freak, so when she is driving, I can help her find the best route. On extended trips, we take turns driving (unless we are in the 2000SE without heated steering wheel), and always enjoy the journey. Hey! Isn't that a Stuckey's Pecan store up there at the next exit?
anm6, no, the light doesnt come on anymore; thats how i realzied it wasnt working, also it wasnt getting hot, lol. thanks for your help!
I used this practically every day in the winter. To lose this feature in the max would destroy my comfortable ride. It seems to be hit or miss for me though sometimes probably because of how much I use it. It will get heated only in certain sections then die and get warm again. BLAH!

So I know I wouldn't be complaining. And yes, Stuckey's is just around the bend.
ecks - Your heated steering wheel is probably operating normally. They heat up to a nice warm level, then the thermostat (which is set at around 70 to 72 degrees) cuts the power to the wheel heater. After that, the wheel will stay sort of tepid for great lengths, with the heat turning on briefly if the temp of the wheel drops below 70 degrees. I imagine that in a very cold climate, the 'off' intervals may be shorter.
Of course, if you turn on the steering wheel heater when the temp of the wheel is above 70 or so, nothing happens.
I doubt if you can use the wheel heater too much. Mine stays on around seven months of the year, and still works exactly like it did 3 2/3 years ago. Be gentle with the switch. I pushed mine through the dash opening, and the dealer had to replace it.

On a 6.5G its fuse #30 in the fuse/fusible link box and fuse 12 in the regular fuse box. Both are 10 amp fuses. Plus a relay on the regular fuse box as well. May be different on a 6.0G.
From the 07 Service Manual:
System Description EGS0011W
NOTE:
The heated steering system will operate ONLY when the steering wheel surface is below approximately 20° C (68° F). If the weather is warm enough, the heated steering system may not turn ON giving the appearance that the system does not operate.
Power is supplied at all times:
- through 10A fuse (No. 30, located in the fuse and fusible link box)
- to heated steering relay terminals 1 and 3.
With the ignition switch in the ON or START position, power is supplied
- through 10A fuse [No. 12, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
- to heated steering wheel switch terminal 1.
Ground is supplied
- to heated steering wheel switch terminal 6 and
- to combination switch (heated steering) terminal 2
- through grounds M57, M61 and M79.
When the heated steering wheel switch is pressed, ground is supplied
- to heated steering relay terminal 2
- through heated steering wheel switch terminal 2
- through heated steering wheel switch terminal 6
- through grounds M57, M61 and M79.
Then the heated steering relay is energized and power is supplied
- from heated steering relay terminal 5
- to combination switch (heated steering) terminal 1 and
- to heated steering wheel switch terminal 5 (ON indicator).
With power and ground supplied, the heated steering system will operate. The heated steering system will turn OFF when the steering wheel temperature reaches approximately 30° C (86° F). Heated steering system operation can also be cancelled by pressing the heated steering wheel switch.
Thanks, jcalabria. I was not on the board yesterday, and would not have known which fuse to point to anyway. I guess I am fortunate in that I have had no occasion to even touch a fuse in 3 2/3 years with my '04 Maxima. It just keeps on being perfect.
