NEED SOME OPINIONS on a car
NEED SOME OPINIONS on a car
im looking into gettin back into the drivers seat of a maxima once again, i ran across this one at a local dealership down here in de. im familiar with 5.5 gen maxis. i've had 2 of those. I have driven a 6th gen a few times b4, but really dont know a whole lot about the car. ive been on the org long enough to read some of the pros, and cons with them, ive compared the price for this car on kbb.com, edmunds.com, and nada.com, they all came within 1500 more then the dealers askin price. so im assuming im gettin a good deal. what do you think, let me know.

bigmike - I thought at first that was my car, but I checked and mine is still in the garage.
Good looking car. Other than a slight ding in the middle of the front bumper, a tiny spot beneath the right rear door handle, and an even tinier one at the 11 o'clock position on the right rear wheel opening flange, I didn't see anything (except the odometer) that looked different than the day this car rolled off the assembly line.
By the way, this car was assembled around May 24, 2004, 16 months after they began producing the '04 in Jan 2003 at VIN serial #800,000, and 2 months before they ended '04 production in July 2004 around VIN serial #932,000. Most of the initial production glitches had been resolved by then. Mine was also produced in May 2004, and has been a joy to own and a pleasure to drive. You also have the power sunroof, which is nice.
I haven't checked prices, but get the best price they will give you, try to make sure the car is mechanically sound, be sure to check for the notorious steering wheel side-to-side vibration at all speeds from around 40MPH to 80MPH (or as high as you can go wherever you may be test driving it) and grab it.

I would ask for a carfax report also. Check to see if there was any warranty work done on the car. I also noticed no warranty on the car, I wouldn't buy the car unless there was a least a 30 day warranty. That gives you a chance to drive around and make sure there are no problems. Good luck.

congrats RAMBERG, MOTM... great honor...
yeah i def would'nt get that car without a extended warranty, ;earned my lesson on that a while back with a dodge intrepid i brought. i will get a carfax done

i bought my 04 SE not long ago. 24K miles on the clock, leather, Bose.... $16,500 private party.
within a couple days, i had the stock RS-A's replaced under the recall.
i got a great car at a great price..... i love it.
if i were you, id look private (if you can, financially)

went and looked at it today, and took for a test drive. it was pretty solid, no shimmy, the power felt good, trans felt solid as well. but the banks didnt wanna take it because of the mileage, they want it to be under 60k. so i'll look a lil more, wish me luck.

MaxEx - You have the highest '04 VIN serial anyone has ever posted on the ORG. My dealer (who usually has several dozen new Maximas on hand) never got an '04 with a serial that high. You certainly have one of the last ones built.
bigmike - It is probably best that you did hold off and hunt for one with less than 60K, so as to at least have the power train under warranty until you can be sure that area of the car is solid. In some areas (such as rural Canada), you may not have a wide choice of Maximas. But where I live, I have a big dealer 4 miles away, and 23 (TWENTY-THREE) Nissan dealers within a 90 minute drive. The number of dealers you have convenient access to can afect your power to deal.
In retrospect, the price quoted for the car you were considering is a little high for that kind of mileage. At that price, you should be able to get one with 50 to 55K miles, hence power train warranty. Here in the Atlanta area, that would be easy to do. Many used car dealers also give a 30 day warranty, which gives you a chance to find problems that may not have been readily evident when you made the purchase.
Good luck!

i really dont think that it is that good of a deal. your buying a car that has 80k on it. i think a good price for this car is some around 13500ish. i'd do a little more research if i were you. FInd out how many owners this car had, and if it is more than 3 dont even look at the car.
I think its too much for that amount of miles, and its "No Warranty Sold As Is". I find similar Maxima's for @ 12-13k around here. I got mine for not much more and I have same options plus navigation and it only had 38k and that was 6 months ago. Keep looking and wait for a deal unless they want to move substantially on that price. I also advise trying to find a lower mileage max as with higher mileage cars the lil things can start to nickel and dime you... basically what you save upfront, you spend on repairs later or at least get a good warranty. Just my $.02
