I thought they were allowed to bump timing to a total of 16 degrees whether it be 2 or 3 up.

You can go to 17 BTDC, and you should have improved performance, but it's not night and day.

IMO I personally don't think a NA car without NOS or Boost should be messing with timing unless you have some sort of dyno tuning and piggy back computer to manage the adjustments, if not your ECU will try and take back control and your engine may not like it in the long run!!!

when I read just the first half of the first sentence! lol

Minor adjustments aren't that big of a deal IMO...just like "tuning" an n/a motor isn't as vital as tuning a f/i motor

Does that include when the dealer does it for the max total of 17 degrees? Wont the computer pick up any significant amount of knock and automatically
back off timing?

Sorry I have no idea why a stealership would change timing by 17 degrees, for my Turbo Tuning we are at 2 degrees right now...

Not change the timing by 17 degrees but advance it for a total of 17 BTDC. When they checked my timing I was at 15 BTDC and they bump be 2 degress.

I thought that was leading to another comment on "n/a doesn't need a tune" tpe of thing...I hear that more on other forums though.
