2008...6TH GEN?

So, I finally upgraded my -01 GLE and got the -08 SL. As far as I can see, the -08 is still a 6th generation, correct?

I mean, if I wanted for people to see my stock Maxima I'd give them a link to the Nissan site, or tell them to go to the dealership and look at x colored Maxima and that's the one I have. As I said, just my opinion when it comes to that. Might explain why I've never posted exterior pics of my car since it's pretty stock (changing that this upcoming week). Anyways, not hating though. As I've said, he'll definatley enjoy his purchase.

It also depends on how new/old the car you’re taking pics of. Mark my word, we will ALL be asking for pics of the new gen when it comes out, I know I will, and many many many other members.

Just like the craze for third party pictures when the new G/Z etc came out.

I'm thinking about an '08 SE myself. In fact I'm getting my '03 SE appraised tomorrow, and if they can give it to me for around 20k OTD I'll jump on it.

It should be doable, the invoice on the Max I want is around 30.5 (loaded minus Nav, dark slate gray w/ black leather guts). My car should appraise for around 10k. TTL and the $2.5k rebate pretty much offset each other slightly in my favor, so I think 20k OTD is a reasonable offer.

I just really, really hope I don't regret it when I see the 2009. I am guessing that the '09 is going to be horrendously expensive and I won't regret it... too much?

Are you looking at a base SE? I don't think the base 2009 Maxima will be that costly. If 2009 Murano prices are any indication, I think you can get a base 2009 Maxima within $30k. However, with packages and options, I think it will cross $40k.

But in any case, Nissan will be offering a $3k rebate again, maybe from May on the 2008. They were doing that in December. So if you can wait till then, you might reduce the price by $500 more. Also, as the 2009 Maximas start coming to the dealership, you will be able to negotiate more. Thats why normally August-September is a good time to buy the outgoing cars. But this time, it might be difficult to let a 29 max go and buy a 28

ill bet that the 09's will have some bullshlt dealer surcharge on them. when i bought my 04, i found all of the original paperwork from the initial sale in the trunk. along with the window sticker, there was an additional sticker that added $3000 to the car back in 04. "market adjustment"

riiiiiiiiiight.

I got a $2,500 rebate on the '08 I bought on Saturday. While waiting, I was looking at the '09 Murano's and the Altima Coupe's and both of them had almost 5K in dealer mark up's since they are "new". I asked the salesman about the '09 Maxima's and he is almost positive there will be a 5-8K mark-up on the '09 Max.

Domestic Violence is correct that dealers are very reluctant to give really good deals on a new generation vehicle the fist few months. If the new vehicle 'catches on' (demand is high) it is sometimes many months before they will really negotiate. I have sadly endured this with the release of each Maxima generation since October 1984.

As to the 'base price' of the '09, I have still gotten no clue as to whether Nissan will keep the existing system and have a base SE, or whether the game has changed along with the definition of a Maxima. We may see a situation where the car will only come fairly loaded, in which case the base price could be $33K or so. But who knows?

SPY Photos...

Looks like it's gonna look the same. It could be a decoy to throw us off though.

All true, but the dealers can soften up a good bit at the end of the month. In the span of just over a week my dealer went from $1000 "market adjustment" surcharge (over MSRP) for the privelege of having the first '07 in the state to $300 under invoice because he needed to fill the monthly quota. Called me at home at 8:30 pm on June 30th begging me to come in and close the deal. Learn their game, exploit their weaknesses!

I3LaZeN - The '08 Maxima is absolutely and positively a gen 6.5. The '04 thru '06 are gen 6.0, and the '07 and '08 are gen 6.5 The generation designation of the '07 and '08 models was changed to 6.5 because of the new grill, new interior, the foglights moved from the headlight cluster to down to the front bumper where they always should have been, the cornering lights moved from down on the side of the front bumper up to the headlight cluster, the tranny changed to 'CVT only', etc, etc.

But '04 thru '08 are all the same body design and style, and the same generation. Any reference you see to '04 thru '07 was written before the '08s came out.

So after reading thru this thread it seems everyone is in agreement that the 2008 is still a 6th Gen Maxima.. If so then someone needs to change the title of this forum to include the 2008 model.. "6th Generation Maxima (2004-2007) Discussion of the redesigned Maxima. Come see what others are saying."

Who does that type of change???

BTW - Just picked up a 2008 SE (Black of course) last Wed and love it. Still have a 2000 SE (Black of course) that I will be parting with soon.. Just ordered a roof spoiler for my first cosmetic mod... More to come later...

Since the Org doesn't breakdown Gens by their .5 siblings, the 2008 is considered a 6th gen but if you have to break them out within the 6th Gen community, the 04-06 is a 6th Gen and the 07-08 is a 6.5 Gen. If what we heard is correct for the new Max, then the 2009 will be the official 7th Gen...

OK thanks but all I was wondering was who and when (if at all) will change the title of this forum from:

"6th Generation Maxima (2004-2007) Discussion of the redesigned Maxima. Come see what others are saying."

The Max.org Mods will, in the mean time keep posting, the new Max unveiling is this month so we'll know if a new 7th gen forum needs to be created. You're in the 6th gen mix so don't sweat it...

Like the OP I was wondering where I fell in the gens. This is my first Maxima, 08 SE Dark Slate, premium package, CVT ( still undecided about that) time will tell. But this car is a lot more fun to drive than the Taurus's I drove for the last 10 years. Now you've got me thinking about my first mod and I haven't got the first 1000 on the car yet. Frank
