Installed new SMT switchbacks, way brighter!

I started to get a flicker so I decided to upgrade to the new SMT version. They are way slimmer first off and way easier to get into the housing.

Here's all the lighting options...

That looks nice! Are you able to post a before and after comparison pic?

EDIT: Also, where/how much did you get the new ones for?

Mine are not blue, they look more blue in the pics but my 8k's are definitely bluer...you can see in the pics compared to the headlight.

www.autolumination.com
About 1/2 way down and $5 more per bulb.

As for before and after, it would be hard because the pics would be from different times/location/lighting. I found a pic but they look pretty close. In person I can tell for sure though. And these I noticed are much more noticable during the day when I'm behind another car, the wht before got washed out a bit (the amber is always bright day or night) Definitely a good upgrade...

Looks good. Are you using load resistors or just a flasher for the LED's?

I will be installing my new 30 SMT switchbacks as soon as my Halo's arrive. I will also be installing the load resistors and LED protectors. Did you install the LED protectors when you were running the previous LED's?
The switchback's look awesome with the HID's. What did you change your fog lights out with? I have been debating what I was going to do with my fog lights. Thanks

I have the protectors and resistors. The one that started to flicker I had for quite a while. These new SMT's should be more reliable.

I have PIAA Yellow ION bulbs in there. I love the yellow...

I finally got my halo's, switchbacks, resistors and protectors installed yesterday and the blinkers still seem to be faster than normal. How fast are your turn signals?

You really can't tell that the parking lights are on during the day but you can see the turn signals very well in the daylight. But they look awesome at night.

Anybody have a problem with the new SMT's yet? I installed mine with a 3 ohm equalizer on each side in the rear of the car, and on one of the bulbs the white only works sometimes...its weird. And when i signal left, it flashes twice then stops. Any clues anyone??

What state? You stated you got pulled over today(day or night), if it was daytime how did they know that you had them? I have been wondering myself what the law would be on running the clear parking light at night, but oh well I have them so I am going to run them for as long as I can.

Well did he tell you what is illegal about them?
Do you have to have amber parking lights at the front of the car? What's the reason?
I guess it depends in which state you live. Check w the law...

You can install them like I have or in the rear if you want it does not matter and one resistor per side will take care of front and back if you put LED taillights in. If you install the resistors like I have make sure to use a thick bead of butyl sealant/adhesive or thick double sided tape tohelp protect from heat to the headlight housing. The butyl tape can be picked up at any auto glass shop or most glass shops.

But we don't have the LED tails yet. Can I still just install it in the rear?

lol im not using it as a excuse, i just don't enjoy be outside for long times when its 30-40 degrees. only time i did was when i was puttin the switchbacks on cause i was in a rush to just hav it put on.

also i hated takin the bumper off to it was annoyin as hell but i followed deus's directions and it helped cept for the part were he said the bumper will just come down, u hav to pull it out for it to drop down. broke my left clip in that process....but ya hav fun with that

Yes you can install in either location, it doesn't matter if you have front or rear LED's or both just as long as you have one resistor installed on each side in front or rear.

Been running switchbacks for a couple of years with no problems...

This is from the Ca DMV site:

Color of Lamps and Reflectors

25950. This section applies to the color of lamps and to any reflector exhibiting or reflecting perceptible light of 0.05 candela or more per foot-candle of incident illumination. Unless provided otherwise, the color of lamps and reflectors upon a vehicle shall be as follows:

(a) The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from all reflectors, visible from in front of a vehicle, shall be white or yellow, except as follows:

(1) Rear side marker lamps required by Section 25100 may show red to the front.

(2) The color of foglamps described in Section 24403 may be in the color spectrum from white to yellow.

(3) An illuminating device, as permitted under Section 24255, shall emit radiation predominantly in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Any incidental visible light projecting to the front of the vehicle shall be predominantly yellow to white. Any incidental visible light projecting to the rear of the vehicle shall be predominantly red. Any incidental visible light from an illuminating device, as permitted under Section 24255, shall not resemble any other required or permitted lighting device or official traffic control device.

(b) The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from all reflectors, visible from the rear of a vehicle, shall be red except as follows:

(1) Stoplamps on vehicles manufactured before January 1, 1979, may show yellow to the rear.

(2) Turn signal lamps may show yellow to the rear.

(3) Front side marker lamps required by Section 25100 may show yellow to the rear.

(4) Backup lamps shall show white to the rear.

(5) The rearward facing portion of a front-mounted double-faced turn signal lamp may show amber to the rear while the headlamps or parking lamps are lighted, if the intensity of the light emitted is not greater than the parking lamps and the turn signal function is not impaired.

(6) A reflector meeting the requirements of and installed in accordance with Section 24611 shall be red or white, or both.

(c) All lamps and reflectors visible from the front, sides, or rear of a vehicle, except headlamps, may have any unlighted color, provided the emitted light from all lamps or reflected light from all reflectors complies with the required color. Except for backup lamps, the entire effective projected luminous area of lamps visible from the rear or mounted on the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall be covered by an inner lens of the required color when the unlighted color differs from the required emitted light color. Taillamps, stoplamps, and turn signal lamps that are visible to the rear may be white when unlighted on vehicles manufactured before January 1, 1974.

Another question that often comes up:

License Plate Lamp

24601. Either the taillamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear license plate during darkness and render it clearly legible from a distance of 50 feet to the rear. When the rear license plate is illuminated by a lamp other than a required taillamp, the two lamps shall be turned on or off only by the same control switch at all times.

Amended Ch. 1313, Stats. 1965. Effective September 17, 1965.
