Any clues how long do stock 6th gen shocks last?
I know that many have had problems with lowered springs, but I'm talking about a stock setup. I have 35K miles so far, car has 4 years, and they seem perfectly fine, responsive and noiseless.

How long did yours last before you needed to change them?
What was the problem?

Thanks

I'm in montreal right now, during spring pothiles are horrible, I hit alot of big holes and I constantly hit potholes, but at low speed.... They have started repairing streets now so it's kinda better.

So for normal driving they should last like 60K miles approx?

How do you know when they are worth replacing? Car bouces or noisy?

If it's not the struts, then it's going to be the mounts...which=me right now at the ****ing clunking sound! Can't wait to get my CT4850HO to do the job myself

Most shock manufacturers claim about 60k miles. I had mine replaced with GR2's here a few months ago at 57k miles. One was giving me problems and I figured it was time.

When you replace with GR2, is it wise to change the mounts as well or they'll last much longer than the shocks?

Got 88K miles on my 05 SE. Began to notice creaking noises coming from front struts esp when the car is cold. Mechanic says, the struts on 04 & 05 are crap. I'm going to replace them soon, any suggestions or should i stick with OEMS? I use my car for work, drive around NYC, many potholes and dips, Don't want to lower the car, cause i'll bottom out with these horrendous NY streets

I as well just purchased an 05 SE with about 35k on it. I had the dealership replace the front right strut already b/c it was making a clunking noise. Since the replacement I have noticed that I hear a noise coming from the front left as well. Also I think the rear struts or some part of the suspension is bad as well.

Overall the car handles and takes bumps like sh*t. What do you guys recommend. I want to leave the setup as close to stock as possible but willing to change shocks & struts and anything else needed.

Any recommendations on a cheap reliable brand of all that is needed.

Thanks!

Get used to it. I'm on my 4rd set of OEM struts and my 2nd set of springs and after 10,000 miles, they're trashed again. The only thing worse than those struts is having to deal with service centers that have a sign that says "we never fix cars" hanging in the front window. The make unbelievable engines and so-so tranny's but their SUSPENSIONS SUCK!

so i stumbled on nissan's warrenty pages off of their website and found out that we have limited lifetime warrenties on these things as long as we are the original owners and have not modified the suspension in any way.

I have only 66 K miles on my 04 and have been expecting problems with my struts for over 2 years. Have had none. But then I try to avoid bumps and chuck holes. I'm waiting for the clunking noise or the continued bouncing after a bump. So far they remain good.

I also put a lot of interstate highway miles on this car and most of the interstates I drive are in reasonably good shape. I expect the struts to go bad before I get to 100 K miles.

Hey Kryogen...I live in the West Island off of Sources...say sorry to side track do you ever go to the Julep in the summer on Thursday Nights?

Anyway back on the topic...I have 4 Eibach Pro Kit ones and my 2005 SE is on her 3rd Right Front Shock...and it lasted 1.5 years...I just ordered 2 front KYB GR2's...I am about to order 4 new tires and rims....and the rims have to be strong too or else...sticking with 18".

I'm approaching 48k and my shocks are fine, car handles and drives the same way since day 1, I've taken a couple railroad crossing to fast and I avoid potholes or try my best, I'll buy the active tuning setup between now and 100k, I like the way the car handles but I want it to stay flat and hung the road, it has a weird upward bounce over bumps

i have a 06 SE with 30k miles on it. The suspesion is hard as hell. It sends tremors and rattles to my cabin wen the road is bad. I am sending in my car to the dealer for an inspection this week. I hope i can get them to recognize that there is something wrong with my suspension. The OEM shocks are really bad, stiff and bone jarring esp when the weather is F cold. One question, if they do not find any leak in the shocks, does it mean the shocks are fine? I mean my shocks are really hard, sometimes it feels like no suspension at all wen i go through bumps. What can I explain to them if no leaks are found? Do I have a case just telling them i feel the shocks are just too hard? Any opinion will help...thanks!

You should have bought an SL with its slightly softer ride. The SE is supposed to be somewhat stiff -- and some on this site even buy stiffer struts to improve the car's cornering ability.

If the shocks and struts have not failed, you will be stuck -- that was the way this car was designed.
When they fail, the suspension becomes soft and sloppy -- does not sound like that is your problem.
And Starr's observation may also be true.
