Nice rotors and even nicer DIY work.
Question..... Do the slots act like a cheese grater to the brake pads?

No, if that were the case, some of the best brakes on the market, Wilwood, Brembo, Rotora, etc. would all be blanks. I do however recommend anyone kicking over to drilled/slotted get new pads (not mandatory) so the rotors and pads break in together for a better brake feel. And yes rotors need a break in period also!!!

I had a weird braking noise that was obviously the pads and rotors, told it was a side effect of cross drilled and slotted rotors, but since I more or less baby my car the noise did not vanish, it has lessened but still their, I have maybe 2000 miles on the new brakes and it's almost completely gone, not that I would advise anyone but I was following my girlfriend and she took off on me so I had to show her up and passed her doing 120, car stopped so smooth and sudden, the OEM brakes I would have had to apply twice as much pedal pressure, the rotor pro setup is amazing

I just installed the same setup, rotorpros and Hawk pads, and I am still getting the growning noise on hard stops. Like you it is getting somewhat better but it seems to be taking a long time. I do a lot of driving and I have 2400 miles on mine and would of thought it would be gone by now. On the plus side it really stops on a dime now! I will give it a while longer and see if it goes away. I am assuming it will go away at some point.

Doesn't hurt to ask, however since Rotopro's have been out for a while and many members have them it may be hard finding a group wanting to buy more...

true true Chernmax... It's just hard to find good quality rotors that won't give you headaches once you install them, especially the slotted/drilled ones. I see deals on ebay around $250+tax (if u're in CA) shipped w/ ceramic pads, but I've never heard of "Posi Quiet" pads... if you check out ebay, the seller is rotorworks. Here's a link to his listing which I'm watching...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...246819094&rd=1

Do you guys think these "can" be good quality???

True... I gree 110%. I wanted to get the Brembo rotors... except they don't have the ones that are drilled & slotted... I have to choose either or. What good company do you guys suggest that makes rotors that are cross drilled/slotted???? I need to change brakes and rotors soon, so might as well get something good... suggestions?

I have a 2007 Max and Rotor Pros quoted me $280.00 and that includes Hawk pads. Not sure what the shipping will be but it looks like it is around $50-$60.

I also just don't have the time to do car work so I was wondering who might paint my stock rotors for me. Do you think a local shop might do this for me?

By the way the dealership quoted me $200.00 to put my new rotors and pads on.

Hell I could almost get a full brake service for that.

Okay now they have come back and said that the lowest they can do rotors and Hawk pads would be $300.00 and the other price was for some kind of ceramic pads.

But my front brakes that are stock right now continue to squeel when I brake with light pressure but if I put more pressure on them it stops but it just gets irritating.

Now I see a lot of folks have the rotor pros and I see most just love them too much but I also see a lot of people complaining about noise issues. Is this a big problem with the drilled and slotted rotors? Should I just go with blanks or do one or the other slotted or drilled?

I only ask because I keep hearing some conflicting stories about how great the drilled and slotted are and then I hear about how noisy they can be.

So what is the verdict here.

Chris

I also did a search on the red EBC pads and every where I checked said they don't have any that will fit a 2007 yet.

So should I go with the pads that Rotor Pros send or upgrade to the Hawk pads or should I go with ceramics?

I don't race (much) just every so often I will punch it and blow by someone but no racetracks or drag strips.

But I do have a 38 mile one way trip up and down a mountain that takes it's toll on brakes.

Thanks

Are you talking about rotorpros? If so look a couple of posts up. Says $300 with pads. Might very between year and what you actually want.

I received an email from Rotor Pros & Brembo regarding front and rear rotors for my 04 Maxy... this is what I got in return

The rotor Pros:

$185 delivered. Reply if intersted. Thanks

Name = Roni
Make = Nissan
Model = Maxima SL 3.5L
Year = 2004
Drivetrain = 2WD
ABS = Yes
RotorPatternType = Drilled/Slotted
Rotor Location = Front and Rear
RotorCustomColor = Silver
City = San Diego
State = CA

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the Brembo Answer:

Brembo doesn't offer Drilled and/or Slotted Rotors for the 2004 Maxima unfortunately. Anyone who might be selling those is simply having some Brembo blank rotors machined by a 3rd party and reselling them for more. We never recommend people buy those types of rotors.

EBC does offer these type of rotors though. Except instead of being a true cross-drilled rotor, it is "dimpled", which means they cross-drill it, but they don't drill it ALL the way through. They only drill it to the same depth as the slots. This keeps the rotor stronger and it will never develop cracks like a normal cross-drilled rotor can.

$220 - Front EBC Sport Slotted & Dimpled Rotors (Pair)
$155 - Rear EBC Sport Slotted & Dimpled Rotors (Pair)
Total = $375 shipped

Let me know if you'd like to order these or if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Mike
