Im not done yet, I still have shaping and smoothing to do.

 

I did some more smoothing and I threw a quick coat of black and mounted it just to see how it looks. It will also allow me to fine tune the shape so it matches perfectly to the bottom outline of the bumper. I only used TWO bolts to bolt it up. By no means is this final. So I dont wanna hear about how it doesnt fit, or whatever. Anyway, here are pics:

Oh, and dont forget - there will be a small red LED brake light right between those middle fins.

 

Updated pic: Im almost there. I left it white (bondo color) so you can see the shape better. Obviously it will be painted black when Im done.

an underneath shot would be nice to see what's covered. and if feeling up to it, a shot from inside another car parked behind it too.

 

White makes it easier to see. Any other opinions, good or bad?

 

It's coming along real nice.
In the fuzzy pic, the left outside looks longer than the right outside. Is it just cause of a blurry shot?

Thanks and you are right. I measured the outside fins and one the left one is slightly longer. I had to almost remake the right fin since some resin got in the styrofoam middle and ate it up. When I reformed it, I must have shaved it down too much. Should I build up the shorter fin, or shave down the longer fin?

I purposely had the angle of the fins follow the curve of the bumper.

 

Impressive. Starting to shape up nicely and take form. Just make sure everything is even steven as stated, and it will look pretty darn good when it's all finished.

I notched the area in between the middle fins so the little LED brake light would fit. I got the light to work. Now I am making a red lense for it. Should look pretty good and it certainly will be bright for a small light.

 

Its still a bit rough looking but here is a pic. Im going to blend the light in but I placed it in the notch just to give you an idea of what it would look like.

I tested the light after I sealed it up and it lights nice and bright, but I think there is a short in it because when i touch it to the positive without touching the negative, the light turns on dimly. So Ill crack it open and see whats going on. When I solve that, Ill blend the light into the diffuser and finish my sanding.

 

Light seems to be working, so Ill install it in the diffuser and blend it in. The 3 LEDs aim different directions, left, center, and right, so that no matter where you are, one of the LEDs is shining directly at you.

 

i think it looks hot in white to ricey but it looks good . the black and red leds for ur car is gonna be hot **** i wanna see it done with!

 

Deus.. keep it white .. or paint it gunmetal? something in a lighter shade to let it stand out.. it caught my eye when i saw the white..

 

How bout carbon fiber?

Here is a pic of the light blended in the diffuser, and hooked up to my battery. Its REALLY bright and its amazing how you can see direct LED light from almost any angle. Im extremely pleased with the little LED light. More sanding and smoothing to go. I maybe want to do the carbon fiber look eh?

The problem I have been having is that I am not experienced with fiberglass and bondo work. Its not brain surgery but it does require skill. I have reduced the learning curve somewhat because I renovated my early 1900's home and got LOTS of experience patching lath and plaster walls using joint compound. If ur good with JC then you can be good with bondo. Just think "skim coat" and it starts looking really good. The key to making it look good it LOT and LOT of sanding by hand. I tried speeding up the sanding with a belt sander that I kept moving but it takes off too much material. Once I acquiesced to the notion that it had to be done by hand and that there were no short cuts, the product really started to look good. Ill post some pics tonight, and you will clearly see what I mean.

They are a bit hard to see. The surface is MUCh smoother than it was. I need to do spot filling. The center area provides much work as it is hard to reach, so more work needed there. Notice I buried the brake light wire inside the undertray to stabilize the wiring at the light. I have to do shaping with the diffuser on the car and final sanding of the spot fills. Then prime and paint.

Pic here shows spot filling where use a tube of bondo to fill small divots. Its really smooth now. The white is primer to help see divots. It dries fast and sands easy. Almost ready for paint, baby!!!! Ill start new thread when its installed.
