08 Bose Subwoofer Replacement

Based on what I've read/heard (please correct me if I'm wrong), the 08 Maxima has (2) woofers in the rear deck running at 2 ohms. I can't seem to figure out their exact size, but it sounds like 6.5 inch. The question is if I can find a pair of 6.5 inch free air woofers that run at 2 ohms, can I swap them out? I want to keep the look as stock as possible, so I'm not going to build a box and I'm not looking to winning any sound competitions, just looking for a little better bass response on the low end. Not looking to rattle the trunk. Anyone have any experience or advice on this?

Try the stereo section first. I thought they were at 1 ohm. I added a 12 JL in the trunk with a bass **** and all I can say my friend is...WOW. Best money I spent on sound.

I already looked in that section but didn't find anyone that wasn't putting in a box or redoing a lot. As I mentioned, I can't accomodate a box and don't want to make it look non-factory (as much as can be helped). Everything I've seen has said they're 2 ohms.

Check this out.

You should find 6x9 or 8in subs back there.

The opening pics turned me off to that thread (look like a lot of aftermarket audio). Guess I should have kept reading. Thanks for the link!

OK, so obviously can't find 1 ohm speakers out there (thanks a lot Bose), but could I buy a new amp and run a new amp to new 6.5s in the rear deck while leaving the existing 6.5 components running off of their Bose amp? Basically swap out the back half amps/speakers for aftermarket. Or does the HU not really allow that without ruining equipment?

I do not want to change my HU, so if I can't reasonably change out the rear speakers/amps, I'll just live with what I've got.

Yes you can but no need to keep the bose speakers in the back. the bose amp would not be used in this case and you new amp would be pushing you new speakers back there running a line out converter from the signal from your headunit...viola.
Make sure you read Apollos thread

Exactly. Just add an amp and subs to the rest of the Bose system and you will be fine. I think the stock system is pretty good for stock but lacked some low end. Do you really think you have 6.5in speakers in the rear deck? I mean I dont know it just would seem really really small for subwoofers.

First I just added a sub box/amp.
Then I pulled the stock "subs" from the rear deck and that was an improvement all by itself.
Finally I got rid of the box and put in some Infinite baffle speakers, that was great because I reclaimed my trunk and save weight.
Now I am going to replace the Bose system....but that down the road still.

I'm running these in my rear deck. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...products_id=33

Contrary to what some have said, I removed the stock bose subs (8") from inside the trunk rather then pulling apart the rear deck.

Sorry for the bad link!! Try it now. Elemental Designs 7Kv.2

I was going off another thread, but that wasn't apparently for the 6th gen maxima. I took a look inside the grills of the 08 w/Bose and it looks like front doors are 6.5's w/seperate highs up top. Rear doors look like full range 6.5s and the rear deck look like 6x9's. Are the rear deck 6x9's just woofers?

I really just wish the specs were detailed in 1 place by Bose. JBL was cool in that they made a site where you could learn about the JBL systems in the 08 Highlander I bought. Never thought a JBL system would be better than a Bose, but I was way wrong.
