just got my Max back from sitting 6 months!! Have a ?

Ok my L's were suspended for 6 months. i didnt risk driving at all so my car sat. of course i had to by a new battery. just got it back saturday now when i get in it and start it, it drives and feels fine like it did but if i turn the music off and put the window down there is this cranking noise that wont stop unless the car is stopped...when i start the car the noise comes on with the car not even moving ! then i will start driving and it is a constant cranking cant really explain but it is annoying. does anyone else hav this sort of noise problem ? a cranking its not that loud u have to kinda stick ur head out the window and u can clearly hear it when u do that.

any help anyone ? is something loose underneath ??

When you say "cranking"... what do you mean? Is it near engine? tires? front? back?

If you know a mechanic shop... or a friend of yours that has one, have them lift the car while it's on, to track down the noise. It could be something that just needs to be lubricated from sitting for 6 months. I'm guessing you didn't have that noise when you stopped driving it !!!??? That's probably your best bet. OR you can put it up on a jack.. and see if you can pin-point it. sometimes when you hear things from under you, it could be toward the back or front.. you never know bro.

ok. when i first bought the car i had a cranking noise that would come from the passenger side front. ive had the car for 2 years. i took it to pepboys where i use to work i know people there and a friend of mine was going to try n fix it for free. he drove it, heard the noise but when he went to put it on the lift and all that and look could not locate the noise...been there ever since. when i first start driving its like a cranking noise it makes and it goes away when it warms up...

i just got my l's back yesterday and there is a NEW noise that i have. the cranking noise is still there but now there is a new cranking noise from another part of the car (underneath me as i tried to explain) that is constant. i have no idea what it is

my car is a 04 and it has 39,000 miles on it if that helps. within the first year of having the car i had to have a brand new axle put on and i also have a ripped liq filled motor mount that i have not replaced yet because i refuse to pay 750 dollars at the dealer(thats what they told me the mount costs)

Ok... the FIRST cranking noise that goes away when the car warms up, that could be a timing chain tensioner ... I had that same problem with mine when I bought it.

The Second noise: If it's constant, whether you drive the car or not, then it has to be in the engine area. It's the only place in the car that has any moving parts when the engine is on, but not moving. It won't be tires, joints, or in the rear. Again, it could be something simple that just needs to be lubricated bro... I'd get it checked out by a couple of people to track it down. Worst case scenario, get it checked at the dealer/mechanic... a good dealer/mechanic that you trust (VERY hard to find).. so they can tell you what it could be.

The motor mount thing... never get stuff like that done at the dealer... it's a LOT cheaper to get it done somewhere bro. It's only a motor mount, any mechanic could change it. Your only option is to get it inspected by someone you know that knows what they're doing.

If you're goin to rely on forum people to track it down for ya, then you're wasting your time brother. Half the people on here(if not more) don't even know anything about THEIR own car . The other half... knows cars inside out, but I wouldn't waste time... get it inspected

If you didn't take any precautions, you would have rust or grime in your engine. Take it to a real mech shop for service, not pepboy.

are you sure you didnt refresh the page over and over?

also that whoosing sound is your headlamp fluid. the tank is right by the drivers side brakes.
you may need to refill it. since im pretty sure from it sitting 6months it depleted.
also check the forums for the DIY how to drive section. I mean theres a lot of threads where others have had their DL suspended.

listen more carefully your metal noise probably sounds like a tin foil pie plate and the whoosing may be the coolant, add some and make a few highway runs, might have a small air bubble in the line somewhere I had it and it went away when I filled the coolant reservoir tank up

if the car went up on a lift and the noise disappeared then most likely a heat sheild, crawl under the car and see if any sheilds are loose

so i was under the car today !! i did not find anything loose...i messed around under there for a good half hour feeling around and looking i could not find anything loose. i cleaned out my throttle body (very easy to do) and i did notice that my resv tank of my coolant was low so i am going back to pepboys to get some coolant.

as far as the whoosing noise when i press my brakes it is still there...i will put coolant in the car and see if it goes away ...

jingiko what did u mean by headlamp fluid ???? i dont know what you are referring to or what that means ???

I would check the brakes...

Chances are the rotors rusted from sitting and the pads are grinding. Wash it and drive it.

If it rattles I would search the forum under "heatshield".... I had that problem and it was fixed free by the dealer via the TSB.
