Anybody got a write up on it? Is it as simple as draining the radiator and replacing the fluid? On my 00 I did it that way, but also ran distilled water through it a few times to make sure all of the old anti freeze was out.

I know my my 944 you are supposed to drain the block as well.

FSM says: To drain: Pop the radiator cap, remove the bottom drain and collect all the old stuff. Also, remove the plastic reservoir (where you check the fluid level) and drain/clean it out. This is all you need to do to drain the system.


To flush the system once it is drained: Fill with water, turn the car on with the heater full blast hot and let the car warm up, rev the engine a couple times, turn the car off and let cool, drain and repeat until fluid comes out clean. You CAN skip this step.


To fill: Fill with distilled water and turn the car on with the heater full blast hot. Keep adding antifreeze or water as needed until full with the right mixture. You will need to get a coolant tester if you don't already have one to make sure it's all good. Make sure to keep the radiator mostly full to preclude air getting in the system! System capacity is about 9 quarts including the plastic reservoir tank.

Remember, when you fill it up to keep the front end of the car as high as possible. It may take some time to get the air bubbles out

If you really want to do it yourself go buy one of those coolant filler tools. It's basically a plastic funnel with adapters to fit the radiator. Put it on the car, fill it with coolant and leave it running till it stops taking coolant and air bubbles no longer pop out.

Does the FSM say nothing about draining the block???

I know its different, but I looked at my Haynes for my 5th gen.

It says to drain the block via two drain plugs. It then says to hook up a garden hose and flush water through it until it comes out clean. I suppose filling it with water is the same thing?

use can use the oem nissan stuff. but from what ive read up on, and waht i plan to do during thanksgiving break is to use the toyota red coolant, distilled water and some water wetter ftw!

FSM only mentions messing with the block drain plugs if you are going to be uninstalling the engine for maintenance.

open the fill cap and bottom drain plug and wait for all the coolant to drain. then take the garden hose and put it in the hole, and take a clean shop rag or equivelant around the hose at the cap and have someone turn it on high enough to push through the whole system to inlude the block and water pump. when the coolant is gone and you see water going through then shut off the hose and get a clear glass to see if there is any coolant still in the system. then close the drain plug and fill with water and add flush. run car with heater all the way up for time flush bottle recommends and then repeat the drain and hose technique untill clear again. then depending on the climate you live in depends on your mixture. i use royal purple and water mixture according to their site. also you can buy test strip kits to check the contamination in you coolant. once you have it the way you want it then keep it that way unless it gets contaminated. this is a closed loop system that should be monitored for problems not changed at a specific interval. one thing i live by is if it aint broke don't try and fix it. just because the maintenance book recommends it doesn't mean it needs it.
