5at FWD to 5at AWD?

is it possible to do a conversion from AW55-50SN to AW55-51SN transmission, and what would be involved in this process? I was looking for new parts for the tranny and just had a brain fart so I figured I would let everyone smell it. Deffinitly doesn't smell like roses but worth the sniff right? Anyways I am sick of this tranny we have now and want something different and if AWD is a possibility then I am in.

Can you poach the drivetrain system of the Murano and would you have the room for it to fit? As we always say, with enough money anything is possible.

you will probally spend more on parts and fab work than a g35x costs seen them going for about 14k think about it tranny custom driveshaft the tunell for the driveshaft and the complete rear end going to cost you alot of cash and time

I honestly think you should trade your max in for a g35 concidering you think so highly of them and try to sell the idea of owning one to anyone and everyone who wants to upgrade or change anything on their car.

1st off ... I said g35 X... I have never told ANYONE on this site to go buy a g35 of any kind... you are the first my man....You are the one who wants to convert our boat into an AWD Beast LOL.... And yes i do think highly of them.. they are great cars... Anyone who is even thinking about doing a AWD transformation should think about upgrading to a g35x... YES I SAID UPGRADE since they are made better/look better IMO...

2nd... I love my car the way it is... I dont need AWD... My car handles fine for what i use it for... Doesnt really snow/rain much where i live

3rd I have spent less than 4000 bucks on mods... dont know where u can get 2 g35's for 4000 bucks.. LOL.. you=FTL

Go turn on your underglow and cruze son

You want to convert to AWD with the transverse mounted engine, the biggest obstacle would be finding a transfer case that would hook up, thats probably why someone mentioned the Murano since volvo shares our trans, don't they come in AWD

I don't know about converting the 6th Gen to AWD but a body shop/ crush yard I know of, their is a guy who has a AWD G35x power train that he wants to put in an 04/05 Maxima, I have been waiting for years to see this happen but nothing, he says it can be done but he talks a lot, it's not impossible but he has no time really and they all drive MB with the AMG letters on them so I don't see it happening

I would have to say that would cost more than FI and when you go to trade it in with AWD, dealer says Ill give you 11K for your car
But Anything can be done with loot

The AWD Nissan Quest minivan uses the AW55-51SN transmission, you would need the tranny, driveshaft (shortened) rear diff and rear drive spindles. Plus room to install the underlying components.

If your a do it your self type of person anything is possible, but if a shop would do this work for you it would be cheaper to buy a G37x right meaow!!!

The AWD system on the Muranos is a joke , its only AWD up to 15mph and then it drops back to normal

just 15mph for real, but I have read that as speed increases AWD loses it's effectiveness, partly why when it snows so many 4wd/awd crash

i know on the honda pilot there is an electromagnetic clutch at the rear diff which only engages if the front wheels are slipping and they only engage up to some weird seed like 12... I am sure the purpose of this is to reduce resistance losses in the system in order to increase fuel economy.

You really don't need awd after 15 mph anyway once you get moving from a stop you should be fine and if you are still slipping then you are going too fast for the conditions...

thanx guys for your comments and help. Opened up my eyes a bit. I will not be getting AWD however I am still in search for a stronger FWD tranny that is compatible. I just don't think this transmission is right for this engine. This thread should be closed now.
