My secret project rear diffuser

So, Im thinking of things I can do with the car to make it look better. I made a diffuser styled after the new GTR, but then broke one of the diffuser fins. Then I switched to single output exhaust. As I was looking for ways to improve the rear more, I came across a diffuser that I loved.

Here is what I know about it:

It is made for a JDM only Mitsubishi Evo and is a copy of a brand called Voltex. Its made of carbon fiber of course. It can be sort of modified for a USDM Evo, but it is wider than the USDM Evo. I found these on ebay and other websites. I went to a local distributor and test fit it and it seemed to work.

The first order of business was to remove the lower part of the rear fender (shown in the pic) by cutting it off and sanding smooth:

Then it just bolts right up using brackets. I had to grind a tiny bit so it didnt hit the muffler. The front part of it stops right where the rear mudflap ends.

More pics:

I have to say thats not a mod I would be on the lookout for, but i think you pulled it off quite well. You are always trying new things props for that. I would love a rear diffuser but that would serve as a snow catcher for me here in maine. Nice job deus as usual
P.S. how long did that take?

Not long at all. Took a few minutes to cut the plastic lower part of fender, and more time to sand. I used jack stands to raise the diffuser in place while I positioned it to my liking. It was an evening project.

If it paint matched the car and a diff muffler I would probably like it better. That muffler just looks out of place there, maybe more of an oval shape or something like that.

Did you make it yourself, it seems to fit pretty good.

Whats the width measurement cause I may look into this . I still need to do the CF side splitters like you.

btw I think you could add this to the center piece maybe but it might make it too low.

PS heads up deus I'll be out in Vegas this August 2009, we should meet up some time and snap some pics of our cars together.

Ill drive to Vegas. Maybe some other So Cal guys will come up and we can make a meet of it.

I have an extra CF side splitter I can sell you if u like. Just slice in down the middle and ur there. The center diffuser fins would not be too low. I could probably make some fins to fit, maybe some small ones. Photoshop anyone????

It looks okay... but better than the GT-R bumper. +1 on painting it body color.
Just curious... are your tires still backward? Cuz from the close-ups they look like they are backward. It's gonna rain this week, so you should check on that.

I didnt make it. Its a copy of the Voltex diffuser for a JDM Evo.

I thought about painting the top part of the sides body color and leave the rest carbon fiber.

Not bad. I think it would look better if you took off the mud-guards and somehow incorporated that lip into some sort of mud-guards.

Do you switch wheels for different events?

It looks OK but I think it would look better if it could all be tied in, smooth out, and professonably painted the same color, IMO it would look better if you had 2 duel mufflers also, right now it looks like body work that wasn't finished right and the rear is starting to look very busy. But again 2 thumbs up for trying something new!!!

I agree but not sure how to incorporate without getting really messy. I do switch rims for events. i have bronze rims for street diriving, and black/red for show and go
