is it the transmission?

well i was drivin on the highway and i was to the point where i was at 5th gear, then all of a sudden it wouldnt get off 5th,i have an auto btw, and so the car was acting very hesitant. then i pulled over and turned off my car and started it again, and the car started off on 5th gear, is this a transmission problem or what? and whatever it is how much would it cost me around?
thanks guys

Transmission - Yes

I had a similar issue with my trans. It would shift to 2nd, 3rd and 4th with a rigid "bang". Also eventually I had the same issue on the freeway and "scooted" to the Stealership.

Luckily my transmission was under warranty. The previous post was correct...$2500.00.

The thing runs like a clock now but the CD player went out. Not under warranty and $1,052.00 at the Stealership!

Sounds like the transmission. Maybe you can get the transmission from a junkyard and have someone from the org put it in.

I would look toward getting a CVT 5 speed installed vice a regular transmission. Might cost a bit more in the beginning, as far as fitment issues and what not but in the end will save you from having to replace it again. Plus nissan is probably only going to move forward with the CVT and stay away from this Aisen Warner crap they put in our cars. This is just an opinion not an option as far as I know. I have yet to talk with nissan or a transmisison specialist to see if this is possible. Either way good luck in whatever you choose to do.

it is possible that it is a valve body issue.

I think my transmission is going out on me as well. I have just under 70K on my 04 SL, and under full and almost full throttle, it slips going into second. But I have a warranty with a $100 deductible.

Has it thrown any check engine lights? Our tranny's are kind of famous for going out. Let us know what happens
