6th gen engine bay wash?

How do you guys clean the engine bay? Anything special? I asked the dealership last time I was there and they just said that they spray some degreaser and hose everything off. They didnt seem to care about anything under the hood. Maybe just not abuse on the alt and fuse boxes?

How do you do it?

+1

You can put walmart bags around important parts. Use low pressure. Done it many times.

I wouldnt do it, you run the risk of getting moisture on some electronics and then the next thing you know, you will have problems with your electronics. I wipe my engine down every two weeks because I live in Florida and its dusty here and lots of Pollen that gets on the engine. Use a terry cloth towel and wipe down the engine. Most people at the dealership or car lots who use degreaser, dont car what happens underneath the hood if they sell the vehicle. Just my .002 cents of experience.

I wash mine about every time I wash the car. The only thing I cover up is the battery. If you have a CAI, bag that up also. Just don't wash a hot engine, and after washing it, turn the car on and let her run for a while. Also try not to hold the hose in one spot for a while. Moisture gets under the hood everytime it rains, a little bit of water won't hurt it.

With winter here, it really gets horrible and full of salt/sand. My car is antirust sprayed with oil so I guess that I shouldnt spray degreaser, but maybe just some soap on the plastic things to make the bay a bit cleaner.

Try the detailing section first of all as there is a wealth of knowledge there. As for what I do...purple power for ~10 sec then rinse with water (I dont cover anything) and then take my leaf blower and completely dry everything in a matter of minutes. Quite simple, fast and rewarding. Regardless of what people say, dry is dry and I have had 0 electrical problems.

same!

dont pressure wash/hose it down. Do it by hand It only takes a few minutes to clean it once you get past the inital deep cleaning... My engine bay is spotless and the car is 6 years old.
