Cold weather, no start!?

I live on the coast of North Carolina, about 20 minutes from the beach(Atlantic Ocean). For the past couple of weeks, it has been in the teens and 20's for the lows. These are lows which are uncommon for this area. A handful of times, I have turned my ignition, and the starter is going but no engine action. I have to step on the accelerator to get the car started(engine wise). I had my battery tested and the battery was good. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this trouble. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

sounds like a lack of fuel or a spark issue?

Or could it be the battery doesnt have enough cca (cold cranking amps) to get the car started?

I'm new to the Max and no expert with her, but with most fuel injection vehicles there is a sensor somewhere that either adds more fuel or chokes off some air for cold starts.

This increases the fuel in the fuel/air mixture making the car easier to start.

There is a sensor somewhere that senses either the cold Antifreeze or cold outside air and make that determination.

Living in a warmer climate this sensor could have been going bad for years and you never noticed it until now.

Hope this helps.

I had a 2004 SL that had the same type of problem. With this car at 40K Miles and the North East winter temps at 20 or below, the car would not crank several times as well as having to pump the accelerator to start the car. The Nissan dealer tested the OEM battery and determined it was "defective" and replaced it. The car also needed a throttle body and fuel injection cleaning (why I was depressing the accelerator to get the car started) Interestingy, I now have a 2007 SE (purchased Aug 2006) and had the same thing happen! As soon as temps dropped 20 degrees or below, the car slow cranked or just started to make ticking noises without the engine turning over. I dumped the OEM Nissan battery and got an 850 CCA battery. The car starts like a charm at in any weather or temperature now. Does anyone know what the Nissan OEM battery CCA rating is? Just wondering if Nissan puts in batteries that dont accomadate cold weather.

I agree, seems like cold weather is the problem. Ever since the weather has warmed up, the problem has gone away. I do believe an extra CCA battery would help, no doubt. On a side note, what does everyone think about this new Castrol Edge synthetic oil, which claims to beat Mobil 1? I use Mobil 1, but Castrol advertising is almost winning me over....

Go to bob is the oil guy forums and see what they say, many technical gear heads over there that test it out but use it in long drain intervals.

As far as a 5k oil change interval, Im sure it will protect your engine as well as any good name brand synthetic, but Castrol GTX and the Castrol Syntec line all have many great and positive reviews
