I really wanted to clean my throttle, but I heard it's not good to touch the plate on the throtle. I heard many people have ruined this and had to pay a lot to get it fixed. I plan on using seafoam soon, but I would also like to clean the throtle. I also plan on adding the oil catch cans to avoid future oil residue buildup. Any recommendations on getting the throttle cleaned up?

Thanks

Haven't heard that but then again I don't have precats and I have a high flow cat and have not thrown any codes...

Alright, so yesterday I put Seafoam into my throttle intake(the little hole coming out the engine, just like in the video). I did not have nearly as much smoke coming out as in the video. I had about 4 seconds of smoke coming out of my exhaust, after driving off for about 2 minutes. My engine DID turn off 3-4 times while I put the Seafoam through the hole, with the same type of funnel in the video. So either I did not have much carbon buildup or I did not use enough Seafoam. However, I did use a little more than a third of the Seafoam, I'll say between 1/3 and 1/2.

You won't get as much smoke if only applied to the intake maifold of the engine so it's normal. As you're driving more will burn off (smoke) just not as dense.

Try a junk yard or just pull the other one out, take it into a Lowes or Home depot and in the special hardware sections find a push pin about the same diameter or find a large size smooth nail with a flat head, measure, cut the pointy end off and use that!!!

Chernmax is a great guy! You should do more vids like this. How about a "How to drop you sub-frame" vid?

Then I would have to do it all over again but looking at the pictures you can get an idea of how it looks once pulled down with minimum disconnecting. The key is supporting the engine and help to lower the subframe!!

can someone please tell me where the oem im vaccum hose is on this picture. I do not want to start pulling stuff I am not suppose to. I am assuming it's still on the left hand side so I took the pic towards that area. thanks in advance

its the one connected to the top of the intake manifold there on the left, to the right of the round black circle. To check you can turn the engine on and pull off that tube and see if it's sucking in air from the manifold.

btw, could use an engine wash =))

Use a flat tip screwdriver from the back and work it forward while pulling on the hose. Just pulling on the hose will actually make it harder to get it off...

Cool! It's actually very easy to pull off, i just wanted to make sure that it wasn't something permanently on there
Anyways, did it this afternoon. Did all the procedures exactly as the bottle and your video said...quite a lot of smoke, but not as much as I thought there would be. I mean I reved it for a good while and the smoke dissipated pretty rapidly.

One thing I didn't know is how much fuel to have in the tank while doing this. Someone where I bought the seafoam said it's better to have at least half a tank of gas in. Anyways, I had about 60% of fuel in the tank.

I'll change my RP first thing in the a.m.

ahh ya, i tried it and it comes off pretty easy, but i wanted to pull the other end of it so I can use it as a straw but the other end seems impossible to pull off. I'm gonna try to use an actual straw to see if that works when it comes time to doin it next week.

u mean no SES light right after the procedure? that's good I was expecting one when I do mine.

btw, I'm gonna do the 60k mile service at the dealer right after this also and it says on the list that they do a fuel system cleaning. I wonder what it is they do? Should I tell them not to do it and try to save a few bucks?

Depends, what does your service manual say to do for 60K service?

The service manual doesnt say anything about a fuel system treatment. I think it's just part of the package offered by the dealer

Can't hurt unless they are charging a rediculous price for it and you can go out and buy a good fuel system cleaner and pour it in your gas tank yourself. If your car is running good in your opinion, skip it!

Ok so I just came back from a seafoam treatment on the max. I did the 1/3 in the oil and 1/3 in the gas tank first. Then turned the engine on and put the rest into the intake manifold. Stalled once only. I then turned the car off and let it sit for about 10 mintues. When I turned the car on no white smoke was coming out until like a minute later. I then revved it a little smoked a good amount i guess for about another 2-3 minutes and stopped smoking. Then went for a spirited drive in some near by twisties.

My point is, I was expecting a bit more prolonged smoke, but I guess because the car hasnt seen anything buy 91 octane and synthetic oil there wasnt that much carbon build up to be burned off?
car feels slightly smoother maybe, but it could be psychological lol.

Seafoam is a great preventative maintenance treatment for cleaning crankcase, fuel system and IM internals by using 1/3rd treatment on each area. I'm not sure how everyone seafoams their vehicle but most that smoke like hell have at least 1/2 a can or more dumped into their crankcase or IM. Anyway, don't forget the oil change...

I just put 1/3 in my crankcase tonight, and I didn't notice any smoking at all..none. I'll try the IM tomorrow, and I bet a lot will come out then. I don't know why I was expecting it. She only gets 93 octane and Pennzoil Platinum. 04 80k miles

Yea I dont think you would get smoke if you put it in the crankcase since you're not burning the oil its self. Therefore, no smoke from exhaust

Guess it's time to Seafoam my car, the Service Engine Soon light came on and when I took it into the dealer, besides being told I need a new Front Cat, they wanted to power flush my engine and do a fuel injection service
