loose steering wheel?

ever since I had the car..the steering wheel is loose. like not the turning but the whole assembly..can be moved a few millimters in each direction...up and down to the point where I can feel it. it never got any worse though I have the power steering wheel so there is nothing to be tightened there..how can I go about tightening this?

Maybe somebody forced it and ground some teeth off of the gears. Might wanna open it up and take a look or take it to the dealership.

sounds like a faulty steering column which has been a issue with the 6th gens. Had mine replaced under warranty. If not under warranty, its about a $1200 job at the stealership.

Edit: I see in your sig you have 130K...not under warranty. You would most likely have to replace the column.

I have the same problem and had it checked out at the stealership. They found that the rack and pinion was loose and the right wheel bearing was loose, which cause a mushy feel in the steering of the car.

Check out your suspension, I will take my car this week for repairs to another shop. Stealership wants Mega bucks in this downturn economy NO WAY

I had the same issue. Before you pay the $1,200 for a new column try this:

Under your steering wheel there are 3 to 4 little screw holding the cover together. Remove them, and the cover. There are two bolts attaching the wheel to the column one on the left and one on right side. Get your hexagon shaped wrench and tighten them. It was this simple for me.
