what exhaust should i get?

I have an 04 maxima SE...
It is bone stock right now and im going to start the mod process.
I just got my windows tinted two days ago and im in the process of looking for some exhaust cans or maybe full exhaust. What is the best sounding can?
Should i stay away from the cans and do a full exhaust?
What else do you guys suggest i do for the first round of mods?
Keep in mind im not looking for a drag car or autocross vehicle. I just want something to make the car sound better and increase performance a little. Any suggestions on the best upgrades for the early stages of modification would be greatly appreciated.
I think this thread will be beneficial for all new members to the org and new owners of 6th gen maxima.

I think the Nismo exhaust sounds the best, but I think you should just check youtube clips and pick whatever YOU think it's the best.

Get whatever you like, and can afford. I have a Greddy SP2, but seeing as how their American branch will be kaput, I'd go with a full catback Cattman.

where can i get info on the cattman?
My nissan dealer is saying they dont have nismo for an 04 max... Hes saying they dont start nismo for the max until 05? You would think they are the same thing right?
Anyone have any info on this?
Also will aftermarket exhaust void my warranty?

Well I'd suggest u get Fujita CAI first, then exhaust. If u want a catback get the cattman (~$800), it comes with quad tips so u wont regret it later on and it sounds the most aggresive. It also looks the best IMO. If u just want mufflers then get the Magnaflow 14862's, they have a nice deep tone nuthing RICEY. (these are the same mufflers that are on the Cattman system). If u go with just cans u will probably get the dreaded drone unless u keep stock res. No performance gains with cans obviously but i believe the Cattman system gives u the most gains out of all the systems.

i just installed the cattman catback exhaust and have been running with it for about 2 weeks now. Sounds amazing and you can feel the extra power. I love the way it sounds. It has a nice growl and doesnt sound like a fart can at all. ive received nothing but compliments regarding the new exhaust.

Why is the cattman not on there website for an 04???
Even my local performance shop said all he could find was greddy exhaust for aroound 1000.00 plus install?
Apperently there is a difference in something that is only on the 04... Does anyone know what it is?

Research my friend and stay away from them performance/muffler shops. They will sell you what they want and ask you for an arm and a leg for the product and install. Your best bet is to buy your parts online and take them to a shop and have them install it for you. If you have the proper tools you can do it yourself and save $$$. Cattman is probably your best bet. Like mentioned above, it is the only system that comes with quad tips. Call Brian and he will give you the right info on his product.

The Nismo exhaust is a single tip system and you need to extend the the pipe in order to make it fit since it's meant for the Altima. The sound is beautiful.

The Greddy SP2 is a single tip system as well, but the tips look too big IMO.

Your other option is to go custom by having a local shop run new pipe and install universal mufflers, but going this route might make it difficult to get the right sound and will cost you $$$.

As always, search on youtube like mentioned above and use the search button here to find more info.

Please use the search, no one will hold your hand and do all the work. I have a youtube thread on the cattman, but currently run the nismo. Cattman was to aggressive for me and that is all I will say.

I have the magnaflow and love it

I have the magnaflow and love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty (the salt on the roads here in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here magnaflow 15965, or you can try one of the vendors here, they are always running sales/specials. either way its a great system and very easy to install.
