fubar'ed my rear tire :(
fubar'ed my rear tire :(
Sooo...does anyone know how the hell i managed to do this to my rear passenger tire?? i think it's rubbing onto something since my rear suspension is going bad, and the rear is squating pretty low. the cut goes almost completely around the tire. good thing i was driving on a local street and not on the freeway! there's no fingergap at all in the rear, and to my recollection, there used to be 3 or 4 when i drove her off the dealer's lot.

There were some cheap tires on my car when i bought it. After a couple of hours of spirited driving on some mountain roads the outer wall of 2 of my tires looked similar but did not blow completely. Hard driving on bad tires maybe?
i spent quite a bit on these tires too. still got some good thread life. they're bridgestone potenzas re960's.
tire pressure is still good. i checked about a week ago and they were all hovering around 32 psi.

will that affect both sides of the tire? the side facing outward still feels pretty stiff. i guess i'll take a look at it after i get the tire unmounted from the rim.
yeah..low air pressure..you probably got a nail or maybe just a slow leak somewhere and eventually when you ride on it underinflated for that long the sidewall heats up and deteriorates it to the point of a blowout. happens all the time at my work when rich soccer moms think its ok to ride on a low tire, then end up having a blowout on the freeway...
I thought when we lower our cars it could cause bad negative/positive camber? I know my camber is off bad. Anyway, bad camber causes the tire/tires to have more or less traction either on the side edges or center. Would it cause a tire to split? I've read that it can destroy tires and suspension very quickly.
Since I lowered the car I've had three bad tires. One original RSA in the front started with a small bubble and then split on the highway. Then two brand new General HP tires with less than 2K miles got huge bubbles on the inside in the rear of the car. Discovered while changing rims. Never had a car go through so many "bad tires" so I'd have to say its something with the car.
Good info...... http://www.nuttalltire.com/shop/compalign.htm

the bubbles are from hitting stuff...impact bubbles causes the rubber to seperate from the bonding between the layers of rubber, and can cause a blowout pretty much at any time..poor alignment does not cause that but yes you get alignment wear like crazy if you dont get it adjusted back to spec after you lower the car
getting a bit off topic here, but how is the ride quality compared to stock? i know it'll be a bit stiffer, but am a little worried about it being TOO stiff.
Looks like a defective tire, if the other rear tire is fine then it's the actual tire, and if your tread wear is even then it's not low pressure, email the photos to bridgestone and you may have to either go to a bridgestone dealer or ship it to the head quarters.
You may be able to get some new rubber out of this
