What an unexpected thread Good Luck with your engine rebuild, any pics of the fried piston rings, how did the inside of the block look, and what is being done to it, look forward to pics
I think you have the Nations 1st, and most disassembled and reassembled Maxima

I was thinking this too...must be nice to have so much tinker time
How close are we to the cost of a 2009 skyline with the money put into this maxima? (one on the dealership floor when I went yesterday for service, so its fresh in my mind, sat in it and it fits like a glove, im just a bit short the $90,000 sticker)

No rods for the rebuild? it seems that would be the only weak point after you install everything else.
You probably already know this but linking it anyway.

Wasn't in the budget and upon inspection it was the piston rings that were the weakest!
As for the tread link, doesn't say a lot other than peoples general comments and opinions. If I ever get into the 400-450whp club, I think rods will be very important.

AWE SH*T!!! OK Rods were not in the Budget but now they are. While reassembling the engine 1 of the rods just didn't look right, even the main mechanic didn't really catch it from a side angle but low and behold 2 of the 6 rods had slight bends which main $$$$$$ for new rods. So the rebuild is on hold because I just finished ordering a new set and I'm having them overnighted. Of course if I bent 2 rods I'm not going with OEM again so this is what I'm getting:
Brian Crower Pro Series Connecting Rods
Made from premium, 4340 steel billet material. The BC Pro Series rods are designed for high horsepower, high boost and extreme rpm applications where nothing but the best rod will do. Features include ARP 220,000 p.s.i. rod bolts for ultimate fastening capabilities as well as aluminum-bronze bushings to insure long, reliable service, no matter what the boost, nitrous or rpm
Cosworth High Performance Rod Bearings
•High strength overlay plate with reduced thickness for better oil control and less friction
•Hardened steel backing on all connecting rod bearings
•Increased crush for better retention
•3/4 grooving on Main Bearings providing optimum oil supply
•Tight consistent wall tolerances
•Oversize chamfers where applicable
•Flash plating eliminated for improved heat transfer
•Tested to over 1000 horsepower!

OK received the new rods today. Also the shop finished the valve blocks and tomorrow starts the rebuild of the Piston block since the new rods are in and the rod bearings arrive tomorrow. FINALLY moving forward on getting Red Heat back on the road.

OK all pistons, rods, rings assembled and installed, Valve block and piston block married today with the new Cometic head gaskets and tightened down with the new ARP head bolts. Cams also reinstalled. Tomorrow we reassemble the timing chain assembly. No easy task!!!
Grasshopper is a Master Mechanic doing my rebuild, he's a meticulous rebuilder and does awesome engine work. I have learned a lot from him and he lets me work with him which most shops of stealerships will never let you do!!!

This is kind of discouraging, I was under the impression that the VQ Rods are pretty strong, and the weak part is the pistons and the rings itself under boost.
The RWD guys have been pushing close to 400 on stock block with no issues, was it your tuning that could have cause this ? or the amount of dyno time ?
I have a friend that has a a32 VQ35DE-T on boost going on 4 years at 12psi.
Its odd how the rods could be bent like that at 5psi ?
