What would I have to do to make it work?

 

Do i need to physically bring the vehicle to the dealership?
or can I program the key once I get inside the car?

I'm pretty sure they need the vehicle with the key to program it and they don't usually do it for free. You would be better off having him overnight the key to you. It would be cheaper.

without the original key to duplicate buying a blank key isn't going to do anything.

 

Might has well go to the dealer. show them your registration with the vin number. They will make the key and program it for you for about 150 dollars. They suck.

You can afford a Maxima but not triple A???

 

Ramberg, if I show them my Registration with the VIN on it they can program the key without the car physically being at the dealership?

And, I own a Maxima, therefore no need for Triple A.

yes, all you have to do is prove you own the car, and they should be able to cut you a key with just the VIN. then you'd probably have to bring the car in to get the remote stuff reprogrammed.

The program function that people refer to in this case should should be understood to be - the car is programmed to recognize the key. Not the other way around! The key itself is not programmed and cannot be. Therefore, the car must be present to complete the procedure.

 

I bought a replacement key online for $22 dollars but I still had to take the car to the dealership to have it rekeyed and the stealership charged me $45 for programming.

 

Your dumbass brother should be paying the towing fees!!!

 

Make sure to get 2 keys made. I keep one in my wallet just in case.
