Wood grain could be added aftermarket though, so that's not conclusive.

I'd think the VIN would determine if it's an SL or SE. Call the local Nissan dealership, give them the VIN, they should be able to look it up in a matter of minutes...

If it's an early build 04 and an SL then you will have the 4sp tranny (like me, boo)
Like this, but with wood. huh huh huh, I said wood...

Although the wood grain is not conclusive, I can't imagine someone adding it after (if it's OEM that is) But 18's added would be much more common.

VIN dealer check....done.

All you have to do is run the VIN number through NADA to find out the trim level for your vehicle.

If you open the arm rest and look at the sticker underneath, in the bottom left corner it should tell you the factory tire size.
17" = SL
18" = SE

Post #22 You are wrong! I have a 2004 Maxima SL. ALL PACKAGES. VDC TCS i have all those buttons over there. I dont have the semi-auto but if i put it in 3. and accelerate then bump it over, it down shifts twice if i coast. therefore giving me 5 gears. It may be a special order with mine. My maxima was ordered off line. I have every package Nissan made for maximas. Even the Elite.

Nope. The VIN indicates the trim, and not the differences between trims.
