I dont know what to do!!!!!
Here recently my 04 max wouldnt start, it turns over and catches for a second and then it just dies. I had it towed to a nearby mechanic about 10 miles away but when he went to work on it, It started right up. He said he couldnt fix anything if their wasnt anything wrong. He was going to change the fuel filter but I decided against it if thats wasnt the definite problem. I drove it for about another month with absolutely no problems. Now just about an hour ago its doing the same thing.
Has anyone else had problems similar to this, or with their fuel filter/pump. My car has always been well maintained nothing but shell v-power just had my injectors cleaned about 3mos back. Any ideas??

you said it catchs and turns on for a second ? Temp is normal ? is the idle rough , smooth ? need some more info if possiable.
The car will go into fail safe mode , but you will be reduced to driving it under like 10-20 mph.
It could be simple as your battery not making connection ?
could be bad gas clogging your fuel filters/injectors..
theres so many possiablites so do you remember any more symptomps ?

I just had the injectors cleaned about 3 mos ago, it has a approximately 3/4 a tank of gas. Ive driven it at least a 100 miles starting and stopping running aarons in town etc. It gives no warning. I thought that too that maybe it wasnt getting enough current so I cleaned the battery terminal. that wasnt it.
How many Keys do you have? I only got one with my car but I was going to say maybe the chip in the key is the problem? When this happens do you try disconnecting the alarm?

if it is turning but not starting then it is not getting fuel or spark. try carb cleaner while someone turns the key. if it doesn't start then it's the spark. No spark can be caused by many things. I would buy a coil pack checking tool. pretty cheap and is almost a must to have. if each coil pack is working properly than it's the spark plugs. If not then you need to tow it to Nissan and have them check it out. Good luck keep us posted. You can take your keys to Nissan and have them tested for free to see if the chip is working.

Take it to the place that you got the remote start. The chip bypass is freaking out. I used to sell remote starters in a past life, and also have one in my 04 max. Chances are they need to replace the chip bypass and you will be all good. 99% sure that is it. The car turns over then shuts off because the chip bypass is for some reason telling the car it is not seeing the chip in the key and going to its security kill mode.

Please report exactly what fuel filter this mechanic was going to replace since 6th Gen's don't have any???
Are you sure about that? Then what's the thing under the back seat, called the Fuel level sensor/fuel filter/and fuel pump assembly, per the service manual for the fuel system?
That said, it's not a serviceable fuel filter, but there is a filter in the assembly, and of course the Mech could replace the whole assembly I'm sure. Wouldn't be cheap I'm sure.
Just splitin' hairs.

That's my point really, it's not a filter per say that can be replaced, it's the whole assembly?
I meant spark plug wire tester. works the same way with coilpacks. If the plug is not getting the spark then the coilpack is not working correctly. There are ways to test coilpacks, however they take a bit of time to do. You have to remove them and check resistances, which can be a PITA.
As far as the filter/pump, I was also told that it was lifetime and not really servicable and that you shouldnt need to change it out....but common sense tells me that its a filter and eventually its going to have to be cleaned or replaced.
The worse part of it is Im scared to tow it because the last time I did that when I got to the mechanic shop it cranked right up. meaning I spent $$ for nothing. In which Im sure the stealership will tell me the same thing. They cant fix anything thats not broken. Thanks for the advise fellas!!!! Guess I could try testing the spark plug wires.

Before you tow it, I would just give a call to whoever did the install and ask them if that is plausible.
Update: was finally able to get it to the mechanic on sat. he let it sit until monday morning and it started right up again, he says it didnt throw any codes, the fuel pressure test was good. Im at my witts end on this one!!!!!
Don't bother with the remote start, it has nothing to do with that. The problem might be that your intelligent key is not working all the time. Sometimes it send the code to the car, sometimes it does not. The bypass would be an issue only when you remote start the car and not when you start it with the key by your self.
I had similar issue with my wifes car (not Nissan, but Toyora) and the problem was with the spark. The car was not getting electricity to the spark plugs and would not start. If you still have issues, PM me and I can call my friend who is a pro in all Nissans.

thanks for the advise Im going to go back to the stealership tomorrow and see if they can test those smart keys if thats possible....but then again i guess the only reason to do that is when the car is acting up and it seems to be starting fine at this point....
Ok I was going through the stickys about TSBs and theirs a TSB about NVIS/NATS system and Key Registration and it seems to apply.this may be a newb question but do TSBs work the same as recalls. Does anyone think that theyll replace or do the work for free or close to it lol?
sometimes they do them for free but most of the time not. I think the more you complain and louder the better expecially if there are potential customers around. I would take the wife they are good at making scenes. Good luck. I know I had problems with my car shutting off at stop lights and what not but eventually it threw a code which pointed to the Camshaft Position Sensor. Might not be your problem but as soon as you throw a code let us know so maybe we can help you better.
