suicide door kit

looking to do suicide doors on the rear doors, and was wondering if anyone had this done? If so can you provide pics or hing locations and kit up close. I am asking because I wanna build a DIY kit/writeup for those of us who want this, but don't wanna fork out $500+ in parts and hundreds more on in stall. I think I am pretty good at fabricating and have a good idea of what needs to be done, but upclose pics would help out alot.

suicide doors on a 4 door car can get pretty complicated. though its still possible.

i worked in a shop where we did them on a 02 impala. and inorder to get the hinges in the best place, welded and reinforced we had to cut access panels in the quarters, weld in the hinges, and then weld the piece back onto the quarter. we also had to take long square tubes and weld them across the door on the inside to add stability.

not trying to scare you from doing it, but just giving you a heads up, it will be A LOT of work. but if thats what you enjoy doing and are up to the task, have at it!

I have seen his car before, just haven't talked with him. I will post a thread on the 6thgen forum too and see what comes out of it. Will post my results here. I am pretty sure this will not be as complicated as some may think. I have read a couple custom fab writeups and doesn't seem too bad. That's why if someone has done it, then it will save a lot of heartache. I learn alot from other peoples mistakes so I will see if this Mdiggy will help me out. In the meantime if someone on the org here has pics of this install please post them up here. thanx

it would look good. its not what id wanna do. but if you're all about it then be my guest.

i wish i had pictures of that impala we did. it was just A LOT of work man. to get everything just right took some time.

also another point if you havent thought about this already, in order to open the rear door, the front one will have to be open.

also if you ever have passengers ride in the back dont park next to another car. the way the door has to open it makes it harder to get out of if you cant open the door all the way. not a good idea with kids and make sure a quality shop does the work else your door will sag over time.

This just seems like a nightmare to do, good luck with it, I'd like to see how it turns out if you do end up attempting this.

Thats alot for what seems like a simple hinge swap. I have heard of a few local places offering the same job for half the price.

+1

I've been waiting for this thread.

I thought about doing suicide doors since it's different and Lambo's are played out, thought it would compliment the backseats. I heard about the potential for sagging doors and the ridiculous cost, but having to open the front doors to open the back would put a nail in the coffin for me.

I would love to read the write up on this one though.

No its not simple at all even on a front door with two hinges is a pain and only being able to use one hinge on the back is a nitemare to say the very least

Par for the course. You're more likely to get crappy attitudes & negative opinions instead of help if you ask for assistance with anything that deviates from the generic ".org car" template. There are some effing phenomenal fabricators on the .org who love discussing projects like this but it's generally less hassle to search forums that relate specifically to your topic.
