Shift ****

I have an '04 Max that I am trying to remove the shift **** so I can add an adapter for my iPod. I have searched high and low and still cannot get the plastic ring pulled down so I can access the clip to remove the ****. Everywhere I have read says to twist and pull down, also there is a TSB that states the 6th Gen it is pull down without twisting.

I started by trying to pull it down by hand, no luck. Tried twisting and pulling down by hand, still no luck. Tried putting a rag over it and using pliers to pull it down, only busted my knuckles when the pliers slipped. Tried the pliers and twisting, nothing. I have also tried jamming two plastic putty knives in between the ring and the **** and twisted to see if I could get it to pop off.

I am officially frustrated at this point. Would love to hear any tips that ya'll might have.
Thanks

if the ipod adapter your trying to put in is the one made by nissan, it doesn't go in the front, it goes in the trunk, check your vehicle if you have SAT radio harness, if you do, it goes in the back and the shift **** doesn't need to come off.

I have two nylon pry tools that I used between the ring and the ****. The **** should just drop straight down, if you twist it, you will break it.

take it to nissan and have them take it off. If you ask politely they might do it for free. More and likely they will just tell you how to do it.

Its a Harmon Kardon Drive+Play that I am hooking up, through a PAC AAI-NIS2 adapter. I need to be able to hide the brain of the Drive+Play either in the dash or in the center console. Im guessing whomever had the car before me, probably glued the SOB. If I have to break it off is there somewhere online I can find a replacement? I'm not opposed to getting a whole new **** either, but from most of the sites I look at, it doesn't always differentiate between the A/T ***** and the M/T *****.

I've ordered a few OEM parts from here:
http://www.nissanparts2u.com/
Decent price, great selection, and quick shipping.

Not sure, but if you browse to the right parts section, they have an exploded parts view that should help you find it. Otherwise, you can shoot them an Email. I Emailed them about a part, and they responded pretty quickly.

you will have to buy the **** and connector ring together...not sold separately. Search for DaveB and call him up...bout $45

Just ordered a replacement **** from http://www.nissanparts2u.com/
Ended up costing about $59 after shipping. Going to break off the old one, I can tell that it was glued now, you can see super glue coming out the bottom of the ring. Friggin' bastiges.

Thanks all for your input!
