Remote start not working

So I have a remote start that came with my '04 Max when I bought it in May. The dealer told me they didn't know how to use it and that I need to take it to a performance shop to figure out how it works. I thought I'd try my luck here first.

So, on my keyFOB when I hold down the start button, the engine will turn over for about 10 sec and never start. Its kind of scary to hear it turn over for so long, so I have only tried it a few times.

I don't know what brand of starter it is, If I knew where to look I could try and find that out. Also my keyFOB seems to be a pretty universal one. When I searth the FCC id# on google it comes up but it looks like it can be used on a lot of different systems.

Any thoughts?

Dude..get ride of it...I striped out a starter and a flywheel with a f-up remote start. It ended up costing me 1k.

Take it to a alarm shop. they usually install remote starts and should be able to fix or replace yours.

Sounds like you need to reporogram the keys or the by-pass module in the car. This is a normal condition and will be indicated by what you are seeing - engine turns for few seconds, but does not start. The dealer might have added a new key or remote and had to reprogram the existing ones as well, but it screwed up the by-pass module or the hidden key for remote start. If you take it to the alram shop, they might tell you the same, but you might going to have to take it to the dealer to reprogram the keys.
