CVT Transmission Oil Change

Just wondering if any of you have changed the transmission oil on your 2007-2008 Maxima. If you did, what oil did you use? The Nissan one, or some other company? If you did it, where did you do it (nissan or your mechanic)?

Also, at what intervals did you do it and did you notice any difference for the better or worse after changing the oil. There are few if any discussions on this so I was hoping we can all clarify the points I mentioned.

Thanks.

Good question.

NISSAN recommends it every 30000 miles. So, it is up to you to follow that recommendation or make yours. It is just good maintenance. Keep car in good shape

I for one, have made my own recommendation. Will do it at 50k or 60k.

I specifically talked to 2 dealerships about this. The smart guy there said, Nissan has done enough research to decide every 30k is a good interval, but if I want to bring in my car at 50k or 60k, they would still do it for me.

About cost? A quart cost 23.99 at one dealership and 19.99 at another. The first dealership says what they do is a drain and refill which will need 5 or 6 quarts which costs 167 plus tax. The second claim they do a flush which will require 10 to 12 quarts and cost 240 plus tax.

It is a simple thing to do. Same as changing your oil. Buy your cvt from NISSAN, drain and refill! Either at Nissan's 30k recommendation or your own recommendation.

Thanks for that explanation.

Anyone here actually change the oil and can say how the car drove afterward?

Is it safe to assume that it is better to do a drain and fill compared to the flush which may destroy certain seals?

i actually drive my Max pretty hard. So i plan on doing a cvt oil change at 20K.... Then a flush at 40K....

I know i dont have to but I do use the triptronic a lot and over the past few months i have noticed a few little hic-ups and rough shifting between 30-40 mph...

Finally met someone who drives like me! I drive it hard and I do use the triptonic. Comes in handy when I need that instant boost! I am happy I just got my Passport 9500i too!

You have an 08 and still not at 20k yet? You don't drive it a lot then.

I got mine brand new and it is my daily driver and coupled with a lot of out-of-state trips, I am at 32k. Will do my drain and refill at 50k.

Let us know how much the drain and refill costs you when you do it.

Will do.....

i havent driven out of state yet. I try to keep the mileage down due to my 50K mile warranty. That is also why i drive hard.... maybe something will break sooner and then repair/replacement will be covered and i will have less worries when i hit the 50K mile.

Just becuase of all the problems the 04-06 tranny's have had.... I really want to make sure nissan takes care of any issues before my warranty runs out.

If I'm not mistaking theres no "flushing" for a CVT needed. As per Nissan. They said this could damage the tranny??? All that is needed is a drain and refill. Anyone else hear anything like this??

Tiptronic is a Porsche Registered Trademark. I believe the Nissan version is called Xtronic.

Cheap place to get Nissan oils

CVT for $14.95/qt and K-matic for $8.95/qt.
I had the 2007 Murano (5qts) and 2004MaxSE/5spd (3qts).
Did the Murano/CVT @30Kmiles. Don't feel any different.
The Max is a much different story:
* Some harsh downshifts in slow&go traffic started near 30K mark. Drained&refilled (3qts) fixed that. Changed again @45K then @60K.
* At 70K mark, same issue started to surface again. Changed oil and it cured the issue, for now @78K.
So, I pretty much stay with 15K interval for the Max and 30K for the Murano.
By the way, this is a Nissan Dealership in Southern California:

I have done the oil changes myself. Very easy and don't even need to jackup either cars. The most time is spent measuring used oil in order to put back the exact amount (use an empty 5qt oil bottle).

Is changing the oil on the CVT same way as for automatic? How many quarts does it take?

CVT takes 5qt to 6qt for DRAIN and REFILL. Buy 6 and if you don't use the 6th one, you can always take it back.

I purchased my 08 Max at 92K, it's at 125K now. I have no clue if the prev owner ever changed the tranny fluid. Is that something that I should still do at this point?
