how come what???
How come I am using Mobile 1 and switching over to EDGE? If that's what you are asking, then it's because I was told by my Father-in-law who has over 30 years experience working on vehicles to switch from mobile 1 and stay away from Valvoline. He said Castrol is the best. It's been around the longest with alot of research involved in creating the oil. http://www.synlube.com/viscosit.htm I am switching from 5w30 to 15w50 or 10w50. I live in Hawaii so I need at least a 10w or higher. 5w is only good up to temperatures up to 30c which is like 84f. I need something for a hotter climate. Once I move back to Washington I will switch to 5w50 for summer and 0w50 for winter. Hope this helped.

I use Royal Purple. However, I read that the VQ35 does best with Castrol GTX or Mobile 1. The testing was done using laboratory oil analysis where the metal content is analyzed. Therefore, I will likely be switching to one of those next oil change.

I use Mobil1 Full Synthetic Oil. They usually charge 75.00 but that for the oil change, engine wash, interior check, fuse/engine/battery check, and a free peppermint stick ;-).

Someone had told me to stop using the synthetic and use regular oil and get changes after 3 months if your engine has over 90,000... is that true?

Always full-synthetic

I stock up whatever on-sale (Pennzoid, Valvoline, Mobil-1), 5w-30 or 10w30 (5w-30 doesn't give my Max any different feeling, but 10w40 will show much kicks with fresh oil).
My gargage is loaded with those. Can't refuse when they "PAID" me to use these.
Between store's rebates + BigOil's rebates, I made money stocking up:
* Kragen's $.99/qt upto 6qts. Then a $10 rebate from Valvoline. Haven't seen for awhile. Still waiting for this to come back. They used to do it every month.
* I think right now Walmart still has the $20/5-qt Pennzoid Platinum. You get a $15Giftcard. And then there is also a $15rebate from Pennzoid.
I also get the ghetto free or $9.99 oil-change deals (5qts regular+filter) and give them to in-laws.
For OilFilters, I normally buy 2-pk of Purolator Pure-One ($9.xx) from Amazon when they have a $4 rebate. This promotion comes&goes twice a month (?). It's on right now:
http://www.amazon.com/Purolator-PL14...1587413&sr=8-1
Note: this is the long filter for the 3L/VQ, should be better than the cost-down shorter version for the new 3.5L/VQ.
Current deal @Walmart:

http://s.fatwallet.com/static/attach...rebate_opt.jpg
http://www.pennzoil.com/documents/04...ine%20form.pdf
Be warned: the link goes to Hotdeals Forum @fatwallet. If you can't control impulse buyings and/or having $$$problem, don't go there.

+1 on the Valvoline not being good. I've heard that from many places including both online and from experienced mechanics.

good choice mobil 1 is not that good anyways the EP version yes but not the regular Mobil 1 ......
Also you talking about needing atleast 10W or higher which does not make sence, WHY ? well the first set number is the cold cranking weight so to be honest the best viscosity is 0w or 5W the SECOND NUMBER is the one you want to look at which is for example 5W[30] or 5W[40] you get it.....
But they say for our close tolerant VQs we should only use 0W30-0W40
5W30-5W40
and of course you can use the 10W or 15W but its too thick for starting
and 0W50 for winter is too thick i don't know why you would go that thick........ plus once you go lets say 40 you have to stay 40!!! you can't mix and match cause after a while with thick oils you separate the close tolerances and thus less thicker oils are a no no......
You can get more information on oils at bobstheoilguy

But regardless these oils are good to use

damn wow 75 bucks thats crazy learn how to change it yourself !!! lolz

and who ever told you that is a idiot when you started using synthetic lets say 20K miles and now your at 100K just keep using it its better your engine will last longer .....

I think you have it all twisted up. First thing is nissan recommends 5w30,5w40,10w30,and 10w40 for our car as mentioned in the users manual and the warrenty information section. This doesn't mean you can't change what they recommend. Remember they are the ones who gave us this sh*t transmission and weak piston rings. Here is an example of what I mean about being twisted up:5w30 = 5 weather rating 30 viscosity So 5w would be thinner than 10w or 15w at initial startup/cold start. The Hotter the outside temp the higher you should go with your weather rating because the breakdown is different. The colder the outside temp the lower the number that is why they say never to use 0w anything in a hot climate condition. The oil is allready extremely thin like water, when the oil breaks down even further it becomes even thinner. The 30 is the viscosity rating by the SAE. Basically to sum it up 5w30 will be thin to start but will operate like a 30 weight oil when hot. It will lube things up but still be thin. The higher the number the thicker the oil. Here is a better understanding http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-e...uestion164.htm

you r suppose to do your first oil change after 1000 miles of owning it due to the conditioners and cleaning agents put in from the factory. sounds to me like yoyr mechanic is an idiot.

new york winter i would go with 5w40, summer in ny 5w40 or 5w50. that's just me though. run that question by a nissan tech and remind them about the vq35de oil consumption issues caused by premature piston ring failure, and express how you are trying to prolong your engine life.

Yea really I mean your car comes with regular windshield wiper fluid but RainX is much better but since it didn't come with the car I shouldn't change? He does sound like a toolbox.

I use mobil 1 5w30 and also in my BMW M. My recommendation is to stick with one brand of oil and dont change around every oil change. Stay consistant. My opinion and im stickin to it.

I bought 6 jugs of Mobil1 full synthetic when it was on sale. Switched over from Amsoil 5w30, and I can't feel any difference.

I make it simple. I use Mobil 1 5W30 in all 3 cars. Only exception is if I can find Mobil 1 specific for European cars and buy 8 quarts for the SL500.
