EDIT!!! VIDEO UP DONT MIND MY EXCESSIVE BURNOUT ITS MY FIRST TIME
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcomIsXKUnk

108mph trap vid http://www.youtube.com/user/theinfam...p#play/uploads

as many of you may know, im chasing the legendary kevin007s (R.I.P.) time at the track. 12.8 was the time i was trying to beat. Statistically, i should have beat these times with no problem . Kevin's Dyno was 270hp/284 tq on a dynojet. I did over 300 hp/tq on a mustang dyno which reads lowers.
if you just base it off that without kevins driving skill, i should be in the low to mid 12s?

Tires used were
18x8.5 rays track wheels wrapped in mickey thompson street radials 245 40 18

rear: 18x8 rays track wheels wrapped in dunlop direzza star specs same size.

that being said, my 60 ft times were pretty crappy. Kevin did have nitto 555r DRAG radials. maybe it was a combination of that +driver skill. Keep in mind this was my first time at the track.

comments welcome!!

kevin your a beast. i dont know how you did what you did!!!

What are your mods...I find 300whp hard to believe without serious internals

as in the pistons....if so...NICE JOB

so your running an 11.5 compression then?

300whp is possible with that

as for 60' how was the track prep? what was the temp and humidity like today?

best thing I can tell you is to be gassing it but the time that last yellow light is just about to start to light up and go for it to get that 60' down.

but really being .3s behind him is because he had the drag radials...seriously they will bring your time down that much.

13.1 is nothing to be ashamed of on street tires dude.

WEIGHT Budd. Whats your weight reduction like? beside the hood?? These are 4000+ in weight.. Weight has a big factory.. and skill. a 300+ honda with good traction would easly be around the mid 12's, cause of the weight. These cars weren't really ment for track duty, so keep in mind if you want to really get to the 12's, get a diet for the best..

Nice looking car btw. and 13.1 is impressive

VERY Impressive times for a first time at the track.

Keep practicing and it will be in the 12's.

What is your mod list?

I am thinking about doing some mods in my 05 maxima, any suggestions to get first? I know intake, "what kind" stuff like that to point me in the right direction.. I look at the sticky post, and it didn't really help me as far as suggestions, and exhaust is looking like its going to be a custom since there isn't really any headers available

Weight is an issue, but our cars do NOT weigh 4,000 lbs. They check in around 3400-3600 pounds depending on how its equipped. When I raced my car at hte 2009 Lone Pine Time Trials, I lightened my car by over 200 pounds, as detailed in a thread I did around May of this year. My car was lighter to begin with since I had headers, lighter exhaust, lighter seats and lighter battery. If i were to set up a drag car, I would read that thread to lighten the load and I would stiffen the rear suspension to keep the weight on the front tires upon launch and acceleration. I would also put very narrow rear tires and pump up the pressure. I might even lower the front and not the rear to further increase weight transfer. Just my thoughts.

Deus is right. You need a better transfer of weight and stiffen rear suspension. This is why coilovers are nice. You can adjust for track and back to daily in a few minutes. Might want to concider Motor mount inserts and one of those JDM Motor shock things they sell for the Z. less movement from the engine means more power quicker to the wheels. Lighter rims could help also. Keep in mind unless you are running at the same track Kevin did, you can't get a good comparision for the 1/4 mile. All tracks are different. Temp, elevation, and design play huge roles in obtaining 1/4 mile times.

I agree with the whole weight issue too.
Also, you said it was your first time at the track. Did you get a good start off the line?
This is something that you just need to pound out with experience.

You don't have enough sidewall! Those ray's track wheels are for a different type of track Throw some wide 15's on the front w/slicks.

BTW I'm impressed.

13.1 is fantastic. I'd go with the drag radials and see what happens. I agree with the sidewall comment, you need more tire less rim. I run on my chrome but I bet I don't have the kind of mods your packing. Wheel change up time for you and I bet your crack the 12s.

I disagree with the weight in regards to 4k pounds. I usually tip in at 3660lbs full leather interior heated seat everything.....I remove spare tire, jack, and all floor mats including trunk mats if I don't I weigh in at 3700lbs. 1/4tank gas.

Congrats, I bet you shocked some folks ripping off a 13.1 Oh yeah, wheres the vids!

Awesome times!

As for the CF hood, it actually weighs slightly more than our aluminum hoods! It's more for looks...

13.1 is a good time for the size of our car. I have a 06 Max and looking to upgrade the motor and was thinking about going NOS to a stock motor. What you think guys? Is this a good idea? NX was my choice wit a 75 shot wet system....

15s won't fit on these cars. 16" might not even fit. Brakes are to big. If 15s fit, you better believe I would have ran them.

You want NO weight transfer on a fwd car. That's why the pro fwd cars use wheelie bars. To keep the car as solid as possible.

You have DRAG radials Also, mickey thompson tires are wayyyyyyyyy better than nittos. Guess what all the fastest drag radial cars use?

Congrats on your run! The mph is good, now you just need to hook. You will hook better on the 17s.

This doesn't make sense. By weight transfer I mean have most of your weight to the front tires. If you are dragging you want as little lift and spin on the front tires as possible. By transferring the weight up front you can achieve this much better than if you did not. For a wheelie bar to be used, you should have the rear up as much as practically possible and front as low as possible therefor "transferring the weight" to the front. Then the wheelie bar should extend as far back as possible and be as close to the ground without actually touching as possible. I for one don't believe a wheelie bar does anything for a FWD car because the lift is minimal and it will never do enough to lift the car up to do anything that can not be controlled. The reason it is used on RWD cars is to keep the car aligned for high torque cars that lift because the front end is not heavy enough to stay down. which can be dangerous if not under control of wheelie bars. There are some RWD cars that cut holes in the floor board and put plexiglass in place to see through when doing a wheelie on the track. Don't know of any FWD drag cars with that installed. The only real downside to lifting the rear and lowering the front is the stopping at the end. The car when stopping from a fast pace tends to squat in the front. This is why I think coilovers are the best thing for 1/4 mile runs. you can do different runs at different heights to find the right setting and mark it for each time you go back.

Wheelie bars would be straight up overkill and never be necessary for a FWD car. A FWD car has a squat at launch but the wheel motion and TQ are up front so it will never lift the nose of the car at launch. Using coilovers or even KYB-AGX 8-way adjustable gas shocks will help eliminate the squat thus giving a more level launch which is a good thing. The more level the launch, the faster the tires will bite with better power transfer to the wheel, the faster movement down the track...
