Halogen Bulb Replacement

The search link is not working, but I'm sure this question has been asked before. Can I replace a 9012 halogen bulb on my 06 Max with 9006?
If so, is it a direct fit or the 9006 needs modification?

I've read that the 9006 will not be as bright compared to 9012, but it's ok
for me since I do city driving. Plus I don't want to continue paying $65 to the dealer each time. And these freaking bulbs sucks. This will be the third one I have to replace within 4 years. And I don't want to goto John Deere
also. The principle is that Nissan should've designed it to accept common bulbs that cost $10.

yes just need to use wire cutters to clip one of the clips. just pull the 9012 and set them side by side. you will notice the difference. once you do that they go right in and stay just fine. I did mine with 9006 Plasmaglows and they work great. Easiest way to install them is by putting car in Park, pulling Ebrake, jacking up one side and pulling front wheel well back. you get direct access. there are a couple clips to remove but are very easy to get to and out without removing tire. you can turn the tire in to make it easier before jacking the car up. Not necessary though. Good luck. I have also used 9006 ultra sylvanias the brightest they offer. they are pretty much the same as the 9012. I have noticed that the fogs are really where the light is at with these cars. Makes a world of difference.

Ok thanks po8
Did you notice the 9006 last longer than 9012?

This time I pulled the wheel off and removed the fenders to get access
to the bulb. It took me at least 1.5 hr to do the entire job. It took longer since I'd broken the retainer plastic from the previous replacement. So I had to tape it up. I don't have an air gun to remove the tire, but I can say is that Nissan did something right at least. Instead of an L bar to remove the lug nuts, the car came with one that has the a pivoting joint. This makes it much easier to use.

Ok next time I will try 9006.

you really didn't have to remove the tire nor the whole wheel well. just the front of the wheel well and pull it back.

I couldn't pull the wheel fender back far enough to get room.
In order to bend the fender far enough I have to get access to
the tabs hidden behind the wheel. The next time I replace the bulb should be
quicker since I have done it once.
