Hey guys,

I have a quick question. I need to replace my rear breaks on my 06' Maxima SE. Where is the best place to buy the break pads from? I know I can get them cheaper online and then take the car to my mechanic to have him put them on.

What do you guys typically do? Do you just do them yourself or do you just take the car to the mechanic and have him get the pads for you as well?

I do have to say one thing for sure. I had purchased the Nissan Silver Preferred warranty right before my 3 year expired and so far it has paid off. After my 3 year warranty expired one of my speakers on the front went and got that replaced by the SIlver warranty. Today, I took my car to the dealer to have a blinker buld replaced on the front and it turned out that the bulb was fine, the problem is some kind of wiring harnest, also covered by the Silver Preferred warranty. Thank God I bought that warranty!

Anyway, any advice on what you guys do when it's time to replace your rear breaks would be great!

I'm not a big car person, but I do like to take care of my Max.

I buy them online from anyone of the numerous Nissan dealers and do them myself (most give wholesale pricing to out-of-state customers). I stick to the OEM because of the 3 Nissan's I have had never had any good luck with aftermarket pads and the oem seem to wear evenly and last longer than others. Many will swear by other high performance brands which are as expensive or more than OEM and may provide a bit better "bight" when braking, but most of those will cause more brake dust, wear faster, and some will squeal. If you autoX or something then you may wanna go that route but IMO OEM is the way to go. Its your car and you will ultimately need to decide what you want and either way DON'T skimp on brakes as they can and will save your life!

 

Go to buybrakes.com and use Coupon code "HolidayBrake". Save on Pads, Lines, Rotors! Coupon Code is good until January 6, 2010. Did you buy the car used or new when it came out? If used, I say replace front and back brakes and should replace the rotors. I recommend EBC red pads with EBC blank rotors and if you want Stainless Steel brakelines.

I have a brother-in-law who replaced it for free. But if you can do it, but if you dont feel comfortable about doing it yourself, then get a mechanic to do it. Or go through the Northeastern thread and click on NE installer and maybe you can find someone who's on this site that can install it for you for a cheaper price. Good luck......

 

If you really wanna save some $$$ go to autozone and get the duralast pads.... they replace them for free when worn out,cost 30 bucks and I never had A problem with them. Free pads forever can't be beat,just learn how to install them and your good to go

 

Bendix also have next replacement set free.
I don't like OEM because they tend to fade during traffic driving.
