so in that it would be best to go for an 07, but i've read alot of reviews about MPG not being so good...is that true in you guys opinions?
I recently bought an 07 and love the tranny. It truly seems bulletproof! As for the gas mileage it is good at best, right around 20. But if you put in the Fujita it drops to 15 or so pretty easily just because you are always on the gas trying to get your "fix"!!!!

maxima tranny issues

Need help bad. So i have an 04 5sp auto. I had to replace the engine blew a hole from the rod so im told, that was a pain getting fixed i had trouble with the timing chain so i think it was related. anyways engine works now but transmission is gone, it goes reverse sometimes and forward sometimes but it looks like it only does it really slow with high revs.

any suggestions on what i can do, really tired of having to fix this i don't understand whats going on because before i had an issue but i changed the valve body a year ago and it was fine with minor hard shifts here and there but now its totally messed up after the engine went out and the car was sitting there

not sure if the mechanic could have screwed something up or do you htink it might be a transmission sensor?

What i need i guess is to figure out what to do, if my tranny is bad should i get rebuild it costs about 2200 with 3 year warranty or get a used which are like 1400 plus labor. any suggestions on a certain rebuild kit? thanks alot!

I would not advise anyone to purchase an 04-06 AT Maxima, so if you want one from those years, go with the MT. From what I have been reading over the last few weeks, the Aisin AW55-50SN / RE5F22A transmission used in 04-06 Maximas, and some other vehicles, has problems. The newer CVT has a 120k/10 year warranty.

Maybe the 2004 is showing more problems because most of those have higher mileage. Almost HALF the people answering the poll have problems. Check it out, the numbers go up with older cars, and I bet in the last option, no transmission problems, the key word is YET.
6th Gens and Transmission problems. There are hundreds of complaints on NHTSA and Consumer Affairs websites.

2006 SE, 79k miles, $3,737.49 to rebuilt the transmission, including new VB. The guy at the shop has seen several of these transmissions lately. I had this partially covered by breakdown insurance, which sent out an inspector, who mostly agreed with the shop owner.

I pulled a Consumer Reports reliability report on Maximas from 2001-2010. 04-06 shows some transmission problems, but the worst marks are for electrical system components (maybe fog lights, others?), climate control (AC hoses leak), suspension (tire wear and rear weld recall item), brakes (warped rotors), and paint/trim (crappy front grill). All the other areas on the report seem okay.
