I currently have a fujita intake and a jet MAS on the way. I want to recover my low-end and possibly gain some low end. I don’t want to add headers and I do not want any crazy noise. A little is okay but I don’t want a car that sounds like a bumble bee. I cannot put the stock air box back on because I need the room under the hood.
I am really concerned abou the low - mid and not so much on the high end.
I have a local muffler guy that will do this for me and I may be way off on my thinking, so that is why I am asking.
Could I do this to achieve what I am after?
1. Take the cat off
3. Change the maxima mufflers out with something like a stock high flow muffler.

noise will come from the exhaust and cat. you could do all the exhaust all the way back to restrictive mufflers and sound like a kitten. you could change just the mufflers and sound like a bobcat. I mean you get what I am sayin. Not that the mufflers will make your max sound mean, just louder depending on the design. If you are going for quiet but want better flow, I recommend getting a high flow cat and new piping from the y-pipe to the mufflers, and keep the mufflers. If you have a 04-06 model don't keep the mufflers, they are ugly. Get the 07-08 mufflers. You could probably find a nice set online. the tips are better and just look better all round. The possibilities are endless and if you want quiet but better flow then get a quiet muffler with better piping.
You want to find a set of the Berk SER Nismo mufflers. Ive been through the Cattman's and a couple of other setups, this is the best of all worlds with less restriction and not huge noise. As longas you have that cannon underneath the stock mufflers called a resonator, you will remain restricted but with less noise. The hard part will be to find the Nismo setup...
Big resonator and running a high flo cat is the secret; headers with the the Oem muffler is not loud at all, it's more burbley upon mid throttle acceleration but you'll notice power through out your powerband even in the slightest tipping of the throttle. Street driveability enhancement will be noticed....you can even increase your tubing size with a Magnaflow 30" resonator and add those 08 muffler to the mix and your should be more than pleased!
